FALL QUILT AUCTION STARTS NOVEMBER 14

APPP contest logo Time to start thinking about which of the stunning contest quilts you might want to collect. For four weeks beginning Monday, November 14, the small quilts from our 2011 auction will be available for bidding on eBay.

If you remember, our theme was "Alliances: People, Patterns, Passion," and the alliances that quilters chose to honor covered a very wide range. You'll find everything from humorous quilts celebrating the alliance of humans and pets to two quilts depicting the Arab spring, with a tribute to the demonstrators in Egypt's Tahrir Square.

Above are just a few of the stunning quilts you'll have a chance to bid on this year, with quilts by Didi Salvatierra, Annadore Neumann and Karen Loprete (left to right). Click on this link to view the full gallery of quilts.

Remember, bidding starts at just $50 for each quilt, and most usually go for less than $100. All of the proceeds will be used to keep the Alliance going forward in its mission to document, preserve and share the stories of quilts and their makers.

While you're waiting for the auction action to start, there is still time to vote for Viewers Choice, an additional award we added after the quilts began to travel. Click here to vote through Monday, October 24. The Alliances quilt have been touring with the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo (www.sewingexpo.com) and have two more stops before the auction. You can see them this weekend at the Georgia Quilt Show in Duluth, Georgia.

Bet you can't bid on just one!

COME SEE ALEX ANDERSON MAKE HISTORY AT FESTIVAL

Alex AndersonAlex Anderson, co-host of The Quilt Show.com with Ricky Tims, is a proud member and longtime supporter of the Alliance, and to help raise attention to our oral history project, she will be interviewed for the project on the convention floor next month at International Quilt Festival.

If you are coming to Houston, stop by the Festival Theater at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 5, where Alex will be interviewed by Meg Cox, president of the Alliance. Like all the Quilter's S.O.S. - Save Our Stories interviews, the transcript for this will later be posted on the AAQ website. So don't worry: if you won't be in Houston, you will still get to hear what she says. As with all Q.S.O.S. interviews, Alex will bring along a "touchstone" quilt that has special meaning for her, and that quilt will begin a wide-ranging conversation about her personal quilt history.

Q.S.O.S. is truly a grassroots project, and anyone can do interviews. Not all our interviewees are famous quilters like Alex. Volunteers who want to learn how to conduct interQSOS volunteer lapel pinviews according to the AAQ protocols, can download our manual here.

Speaking of volunteers, if you go to Festival, you may notice a bunch of people running around with t-shirts and lapel pins reading "Q.S.O.S. Volunteer." They are helping the Alliance interview 65 Texas quiltmakers whose work is featured in the forthcoming book  Lone Stars III: A Legacy of Texas Quilts, 1986-2011 by two of the Alliance's co-founders Karey Bresenhan and Nancy O'Bryant Puentes.
