They're Heeeeeere!
"Alliances: People, Patterns, Passion" Contest Quilts

We received 119 entries for the "Alliances" contest! This year's theme is again open-ended and celebrates cooperative relationships that work towards a common goal. You interpreted this theme in 119 interesting, intricate, touching, funny and beautiful ways. I can't wait for the debut of the "Alliances" exhibition at the American Quilter's Society Quilt Show in Paducah, Kentucky, April 27-30.

All 119 entries are viewable on the AAQ YouTube channel. Click on the image below to watch. Quilt below is by Sheila Rauen, contributor to all five AAQ contests, 2006-2011!

In Memory of Jean Ray Laury

Jean Ray Laury was a key figure in the American Quilt Revival movement, documented by the AAQ and its partners in a Quilt Treasures web portrait and two Quilters' S.O.S.- Save Our Stories interviews. From her Q.T. biography: "When asked for what she would like to be remembered, Laury said it would be for how she has inspired others to do their own thing." We invite you to post your remembrances about Jean Ray Laury on the AAQ Facebook fan page or via email.

Laury's Quilt Treasures interview was made possible by generous donations to The Alliance for American Quilts from Jinny Beyer and from Lake Mills Studios. Completion of the web portrait was made possible by significant contributions to The Alliance from RJR Fashion Fabrics in honor of Judy Sabanek and from Karey Patterson Bresenhan and Nancy O'Bryant Puentes in loving memory of their mother and aunt, Jewel Pearce Patterson.

The project was completed with additional in-kind support from our Quilt Treasures partners, Michigan State University Museum and MATRIX: Center for Humane Arts, Letters and Social Sciences Online at MSU.

Thanks again to our generous sponsors, without your support, we would not be able to present this important archive of Jean Ray Laury's life. View all thirteen Quilt Treasures web portraits here.
Happy Saint Patrick's Day, Everyone!

Gratefully,

Amy E. Milne, Executive Director
