Dear Alliance Members & Supporters:
Our second week of auctioning off quilts on eBay from our "Put a Roof Over Our Head" contest was an even bigger success than the first.
Once again, we sold every single quilt, and we earned more money for The Alliance for American Quilts. The second batch of quilts fetched $3,575, bringing our total sales for the two weeks to $5,687.
Although Pamela Allen's witty quilt "Icon - Domestic Goddess" sold for more than $1,500 in active bidding, the majority of these house-shaped contest quilts again sold in a range between $50 and $100, making them extremely affordable.
The third and final batch of Put a Roof contest quilts is now up for auction on eBay, so this is your last chance to pick up one of these stunning quilts that have toured the country. There are many eye-catching quilts, but some highlights of this group include two quilts made by pioneering art quilter Yvonne Porcella; a quilt by Karen Musgrave, who orchestrated both the contest and the traveling exhibit; a simple but vivid quilt by AAQ member Del Thomas; and the inventive quilt that won the Put a Roof contest. The contest winner is a group quilt made by three women from the Republic of Georgia, Keti Kasrashvili, Irina Lavrinenko and Nino Chargeishvili, and their exploration of the idea of home is especially powerful. To bid, go to eBay's homepage and type in The Alliance for American Quilts in the search line.
Remember, all proceeds will help fund the AAQ's mission of documenting, preserving and sharing the stories of quilt and their makers, and thanks for all your support.
Happy bidding!
