Friends library
The Friends of the Wake County Public Library are people of all ages and walks of life who believe that public libraries are essential to our county.  They care about the role of the library in the community and are interested in improving the services and resources of Wake County Public Libraries.  Our Friends have been supporting library services in the county since 1981. They provide financial resources to ensure that many of our libraries' exceptional programs, events and services can continue to be enjoyed by the community.  Examples of some of their sponsorships include the Storytelling Festival, author readings and book club kits.  You can become a member of the Friends of the Wake County Public Library by completing a membership form available at any library.

Celebrate National Gaming Day Saturday November 14th!
Stop by the library anytime during the month of November to browse our displays highlighting games for all ages!  We offer books presenting rules for board games, card games, checkers, chess and more!

Along with nonfiction titles, we have several Adult Fiction and Mystery titles with game-related plots including:

A Clue for the Puzzle Lady by Parnell Hall
Perplexed by a crossword puzzle clue found on the body of a murdered teenage girl, police chief Dale Harper recruits the town's famed "Puzzle Lady," the eccentric author of a weekly syndicated crossword puzzle column

The Emperor of Ocean Park by Stephen Carter
Chess plays an integral part in Carter's award winning novel set in the privileged world of New York-Washington-Martha's Vineyard upper-crust African-American society and the inner circle of an Ivy League law school, telling the story of a complex family with a single seductive and dangerous link to the shadowlands of crime.

The Girl who played Go by Shan Sa
When hostilities break out between her fellow citizens in Manchuria and their Japanese occupiers, a sixteen-year-old girl becomes disdainful of the adult world and dominates local go competitions until she is challenged by a disguised Japanese soldier.

Monkeewrench by PJ Tracy
Grace McBride and the oddball crew of her software company, Monkeewrench, create a computer game where the killer is always caught, where the good guys always win. But their game becomes a nightmare when someone starts duplicating the fictional murders in real life, down to the last detail.

Regional Readers
Mon -  Nov. 2nd  at 7 pm
The Floatplane Notebooks by Clyde Edgerton
When Albert Copeland bought the notebook in 1956, he intended to log the glorious flights of his home-made floatplane. The plane never did fly--but Thatcher got married, Noralee had about a hundred hippy boyfriends, and The Floatplane Notebooks became the daily diary of Copeland dreams.

Travel Book Club
Mon - Nov. 16th at 7 pm
The Art of Travel by Alain de Botton
Any Baedeker will tell us where we ought to travel, but only Alain de Botton will tell us how and why. With the same intelligence and insouciant charm he brought to How Proust Can Save Your Life, de Botton considers the pleasures of anticipation; the allure of the exotic, and the value of noticing everything from a seascape in Barbados to the takeoffs at Heathrow. Even as de Botton takes the reader along on his own peregrinations, he also cites such distinguished fellow-travelers as Baudelaire, Wordsworth, Van Gogh, the biologist Alexander von Humboldt, and the 18th-century eccentric Xavier de Maistre, who catalogued the wonders of his bedroom. The Art of Travel is a wise and utterly original book. Don't leave home without it.

Clueless Mystery Club
Thurs - Nov. 19th at 7pm
Lord John and the Private Matter by Diana Gabaldon
Returning from Scottish exile in 1757, Lord John Grey, a character from Gabaldon's Outlander series, pursues a traitor through London and across the seas, an endeavor that is complicated by a delicate family affair and his memories of the Jacobite Uprising.
