More information about the link between BMI and Alzheimer's 

A new study published in the journal Neurology found that people in the earliest stages of Alzheimer's are more likely to have a low Body Mass Index (BMI), possibly reflecting the variety of changes throughout the body that occur as a result of the disease. In this new study, the evidence is fortified by the researchers' use of Alzheimer's biomarkers, including advanced brain imaging techniques and cerebrospinal fluid. A greater investment is needed in research so we can learn more about the relationship between BMI, age and Alzheimer's.

Summitt honored by Sports Illustrated as Sportswoman of the Year
University of Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt, who earlier this year announced that she has been diagnosed with younger-onset Alzheimer's (also known as early-onset Alzheimer's), has been named Sports Illustrated's Sportswoman of the Year. Summitt plans to continue coaching for as long as she can.

Make plans to attend an upcoming "We Back Pat" Alzheimer's awareness game in January:

If you provide care for someone with Alzheimer's or dementia, the Alzheimer's Association® essentiALZ™ certification program is a convenient way for individuals to be recognized for learning quality dementia care practices. Both family members and professional care providers can benefit from this program.

 

The essentiALZ program was developed to recognize the knowledge of any caregiver who fulfills the certification requirements, regardless of whether they are paid or unpaid for their care of people with dementia.

Join the Fargo Marathon Alzheimer's Association Charity Team 

Ever thought about running a marathon? The Fargo Marathon (May 17-19, 2012) was voted one of the TOP 10 MARATHONS in the country by Runners World Magazine, and the Alzheimer's Association Charity Team is looking for new team members.  

 

Participants can run/walk any of the events during the marathon weekend: 5K, 10K, half marathon, full marathon or the marathon relay events. There are several exclusive perks for charity runners. We are also looking for volunteers/cheer team to assist the team during the expo and races.
