WAM - Action Day Banner

What will you be doing on Alzheimer's Action Day, 9/21/11?

On September 21st I'll be talking to caregivers, gathering information to take with me to Washington the following week for the first meeting of the Federal Advisory Council on Alzheimer's Research, Care, and Services.

With the National Alzheimer's Project Act, President Obama and the Congress have recognized the fight against Alzheimer's as a national priority, and now it's up to all of us to join that fight and make our voices heard.

Why do you participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer's?

I participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer's in memory of my grandfather who had Alzheimer's, of my dad who had dementia, and of my grandmother and mom who took care of them. I walk to support all the people currently engaged in the struggle with Alzheimer's -- patients, caregivers, doctors and researchers. I walk to end Alzheimer's because I believe we can end it, and because I know we must.

Wednesday, September 21, is Alzheimer's Action Day

Wednesday, September 21, is Alzheimer's Action Day - part of the inaugural World Alzheimer's Month. Currently, more than 35 million people worldwide are living with Alzheimer's disease. The time to take action to end this disease is now!

Throughout World Alzheimer's Month, the Alzheimer's Association is recognizing the everyday heroes who refuse to back down when faced with this disease. Carol Kinkela is one of those heroes - and she goes purple in a big way. Carol organizes an annual benefit fashion show for the cause, which has raised $300,000 in five years. Read Carol's story.

Tell us about your Alzheimer's hero.

You can join us on Alzheimer's Action Day by going purple:

  • Wear purple. Dress up or dress down, but wear purple, the color of Alzheimer's awareness, to work, school, or around the neighborhood. Ask your friends and family to join you!

  • Turn Facebook purple. On or before Wednesday, turn your Facebook profile purple using our "End ALZ" icon. Download now.

  • Purchase purple products. Shop our limited-edition purple products, including a stylish Threadless T-shirt and Bare Essentials tenderheart eyeshadow. All purchases benefit the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.

Thank you for going purple in support of World Alzheimer's Month. Together, we can achieve our vision of a world without Alzheimer's disease.
