Virtual candlelit rallyLight a Virtual Candle for a Loved One

This moving ceremony is part of the Alzheimer's Association Advocacy Forum. Twenty-seven Minnesota and North Dakota advocates will visit with their congressional representatives to call upon Congress to increase commitment to Alzheimer's research funding and to expand Medicare coverage of early detection, diagnosis and care planning.

New Alzheimer's Diagnostic Criteria and Guidelines Released
For the first time in 27 years, new criteria and guidelines for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease have been published by three expert workgroups convened by the Alzheimer's Association and the National Institute on Aging. The changes reflect current thinking that Alzheimer's begins creating distinct and measurable changes in the brains of affected people years, perhaps decades, before memory and thinking symptoms are noticeable.

MeetupMeetup and Mentor
Memory Meetup & Mentor is a Twin Cities-based program designed to build a safe and comfortable social meeting space both virtually and in-person for individuals with mild cognitive impairment and early Alzheimer's disease.

In-person social meetings occur once a month at a Twin Cities location determined by the group and are posted on the social networking website Meetup.com.

Mentors with MCI and early Alzheimer's disease connect with newly diagnosed individuals who have contacted the Alzheimer's Association Helpline or who have participated in an Association-affiliated early stage program.  Mentors call and connect with the individual and invite them to join the Memory Meetup online and in-person social gatherings.

For more information, please contact Sara Tucker, Early Stage Manager at sara.tucker@alz.org or call 952-857-0553.
