Medicare Enrollees to have Cognitive Evaluation Annually
This past week, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued final regulations for implementation of an important provision of the Health Care Reform Bill, which will include for the first time an annual wellness benefit for all Medicare beneficiaries beginning January 2011. This benefit is significant for the growing number of baby boomers who will soon be reaching the age of Medicare eligibility. It is also particularly important to the Alzheimer's Association and the more than 5 million Americans it represents because Medicare eligibility becomes available at the age of 65, the age when developing Alzheimer's begins to significantly increase. At 65, individuals will now receive annual wellness visits where cognitive levels will be evaluated along with blood pressure and other vital signs.
