Volunteer Update
The end of the year flood of donations is starting to come in.  We need help keeping up with the intake.   We need volunteers to  help us stock the new inventory neatly and safely throughout the store.   This includes both heavy and light weight stock.   It gets overwhelming very quickly, so please contact us soon.  Both individuals and groups are welcome.

Take Care,

The ReStore Gets a New Manager
                         and Volunteer Coordinator

We are excited to announce that veteran volunteer Eben Schmidt is joining the staff at the Portland Metro ReStore.  "I look forward to playing a greater role in the ReStore's ogoing success," said Eben.  "Managing the store is an excellent match for my background and interests."   Joe will continue as ReStore Director, focusing on broader projects, such as the eagerly anticipated opening of our new Clark County ReStore.

ReStore staff: Tessa, Jane, Eben, Joe, and Molly

Eben is a native Oregonian, and has extensive for-profit business experience.  He has a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Oregon, and is working on a Master of Public Administration, focusing on non-profit management, at Portland State University.

Drawn by Habitat for Humanity's excellent reputation, Eben began volunteering in 2004.  The majority of his involvement with Habitat has been with the ReStore, but he has worked on construction and served on the family selection committee as well.  He is one of the ReStore's longest standing volunteers, contributing more than 1500 hours over the past four years.

Welcome Eben!

At the same time that we welcome Eben to his new role at the ReStore, we must get ready to say good-bye to our beloved Volunteer Coordinator, Molly Enright.  She will be relocating out of state very soon.  We will miss you!  Taking her place will be Malia Kuulei.  More about her next month!!

Welcome Malia!

Peter Champ, Exit Realty and HFH--
A Successful Relationship

Habitat for Humanity has been Exit Realty's official corporate charity since 2004.  Exit, an international real estate company, with offices in Canada and the United States, has been a sponsor on eight home-builds in six American states and Nova Scotia over the past four years.

The company donates a portion of every transaction fee in both countries to a special charitable fund.  Since 2004, more than $1,000,000 has been contributed to HFH.  In 2006 the company participated in Habitat's "Operation Home Delivery," a recovery program for victims of Hurricane Katrina, by giving its entire 2005 donation of $250,000 to support that effort.

Peter Champs has been a broker at one of Exit Realty's two Portland offices for the past 2 1/2 years.  Before that he ran his own small business for 15 years, importing posters from Europe for U.S. record chains.   In 2006 Peter became the ReStore's volunteer bookkeeper, after a visit from ReStore Director Joe Connell.   He comes by every Tuesday.  "My job is easy," says Peter.  "It's doing spreadsheets.  It's good to see the progress, to see how many customers are coming in.  It's exciting to see a good month, to have a record month."
 Check out the ReStore's Improved
      Lumber Yard and Lighting Section

Although the ReStore has had a lumber yard for several months, we are just now becoming well-stocked in lumber.  We have a number of people and companies to thank for these spiffy changes:

Thanks to International Wood Products for 2 racks of cedar.
Thanks to
Weyerhauser for the many pallets of cement fiber
      board.

And we now have 60 feet of double-sided A-frame lumber racks.  They look great!  Many thanks to the 20 Intel volunteers and the 10 Concordia University volunteers, as well as Bob and Dick, the ReStore's Wednesday special projects crew for putting the racks together.

Our lighting section has a new lease on life too.  It's now a real eye-catcher.  Come have a look.  You might find just what you're looking for!

Message from the Director
It seems that nothing is constant but change.  We here at the ReStore are no exception.  And so it is with sadness that we say thank you to Molly for all her hard work this past year.  She has been a blessing to our organization and the past year wouldn't have been the same without her.

Of course change is also opportunity.  So we also welcome our two new staff this month.  I am very happy to welcome both Eben, our new Manager, and Malia, our new Volunteer Coordinator.  I know they will both be a wonderful addition to our staff.

These past few months at the ReStore have been full of other changes as we have been re-organizing some of our sections and pricing everything we can.  Its been making a terrific difference.  Another great change we have been working on is our new website; with the help of a couple of great volunteers we should have it up and running some time in November.

All these changes, and the continuation of great donations, are about our continuing to be the best deal in town.  So please come by and meet our new staff and see the new organizing we've been doing.  If you haven't been in for a while I'm sure you'll be impressed.

Thank you all for your support.

Joe Connell
ReStore Director
