Dear Friends,

I'm not a big fan of doo-dads - by that I mean the stuff "they" try to sell us real estate agent-types to "create relationships" with our spheres of influence. I dunno... I don't believe that logo-imprinted pot-holders or fly-swatters or recipe-of-the-month postcards create relationships. Relationships are not built on cheesy gifts or gimmicky items of value... but that's a soapbox for a different day.

However, I do like magnets. Always have. Not just any magnet, though. I don't really see the point of sticking a boring old business card on a magnet, nor do I advise spending a bunch of money on pre-printed magnets that don't have anything to do with who YOU are.

I like magnets that are either:
1) extremely clever or attractive and/or
2) provide useful information that the recipient will truly appreciate.

With that idea in mind, I've entered into a joint venture of sorts with the House of Magnets (www.houseofmagnets.com). Upon my suggestion (yeah, I'm taking full credit!), they have created a prototype of a customizable magnet that meets both of my requirements (i.e., it's pretty and it's useful).

But before they go into full production mode, they asked me to poll the audience (that would be YOU) to see what you think of the idea.

The concept is that they'll offer a variety of "Top Ten" magnets for your city and YOU get to select the Top Ten! For example, if you love sushi, you could choose the sushi magnet and select your top ten favorite local sushi bars. If you're a dessert-hound, you could create a list of your top ten favorite spots to go after dinner.

Here are some of the Top Ten's we came up with, but we're open to your ideas, too!
Sushi bars §  Coffee shops §  Romantic dining §  Dog Parks §  Wine bars §  Dessert spots  §  Pizza places §  Hikes §  Burger joints §  Surf spots

Below is a sample of the sushi magnet. Again, you'd have the freedom to choose your own favorites for your city or even a particular neighborhood.

I'm really enamored with the concept (of course, I am; I came up with it), but the House of Magnets understandably would like an outside opinion before investing in the technology to put this together.

So... Hot? Or not?

p.s. - the pricing for this product is really reasonable, BTW.
