Remembering Glen Lapp

Two months after Mennonite Central Committee worker Glen Lapp and nine other aid workers were killed in rural Afghanistan, Lapp's father, Marvin, brother Jerry and cousin Joe were welcomed in the guesthouse in Kabul where Glen had lived.

They took part in an Oct. 1 memorial service for the 10 who died Aug. 5, 2010.

But they also were able to visit the office where Glen helped to arrange logistics for rural eye camps and contacted village leaders to work out permissions and details. Following Glen's example, they carried a banana and toffee pie to four friends who lived nearby ...

Surrendering the 'war on Christmas'

It's become a Christmas tradition--each year the cultural warriors spread good cheer and the love of Christ by bitterly complaining about the secularization of the Christmas. Leading the charge in past years have been the elves at Fox News, who argue that the use of the phrase "Happy Holidays" and the removal of traditional seasonal symbols like the Christmas tree represent the liberal onslaught against religion in the public sphere.

Nearly two weeks after my first post about Wikileaks, their diplomatic cables and the resulting fall out continue to make the front page news. The arrest of Assange and attacks on Mastercard, Visa and Paypal by "Operation Payback" have garnered far more attention than the cables themselves.

Their denial of service attacks shut down these major sites by loading the site over and over again very quickly. The real world equivalent might be a huge crowd of people showing up to the mall with no intentions of shopping so that no one could get in to shop ...
