the definition of love & charity is you
Greetings!
It's not surprising that in centuries past the word for Love was also Charity. Each of you, as supporters of our organization -- whether through funding, prayer, food, writing supplies, or volunteer work -- have shown real love to us and to struggling youth this past year. Although charity is often translated "benevolence for the poor," it also means "costliness, esteem, affection." That sums it up. Your charity has blessed those of our society who need it most and also has shown how much you value our work. Thank you. "Before joining Art from Ashes as a volunteer and poet, I had been searching for a process that could accomplish what both traditional one-on-one therapy and poetry workshops failed to do...The strength of Art from Ashes is that it is a nexus, literally: 'a bond, link...a means of connection.' Art from Ashes connects individuals to themselves and to their community. I have seen the most beautiful artwork there is: the re-creation of self."

IN MEMORIAM OUR BELOVED PETEY
Four years ago, Peter Wren, 25, was one of our first youth participants at The Spot, Urban Peak's Youth Center in Denver. (If you recognize his face, it's because it's on much of our marketing materials.) On Dec. 9th, Petey succumbed to cancer within weeks of a diagnosis. His life was hard in ways most of us can only imagine. Despite the many difficult circumstances in which he found himself, Petey is remembered for his kind heart. He is survived by his sister, Rika, also a young poet; his mom, Eliese; his girlfriend, Gloria; his three nephews, and all the many, many friends this young man made in his too short life. We honor his memory and his laughter. The shockwave that reverberated throughout our community as a result of his death is a testament to his impact on everyone's life. ··································
3-minute prompt
Peter Wren (08.23.04) Gift from the FutureIf myself came back from the future, What would I bring? I'm hoping money, so I can be rich. But instead I bring advice on how to be a better man, so I can be rich with happiness and knowledge instead of rage, locked up in an 8 by 3 cage, because the judge was having a bad day, and was too lazy to turn the page to see my good side. Do you know what I said for that gift? Thank you. Read more youth poems... |
