Piping for a Highland Dance Competition
When preparing to pipe for highland dancers, here are
some tips:
- If piping at a competition, talk with the
competition organizer to get the most up-to-date
information on the standard dance tempos
- Another good way to ensure you have the right tempo
is to go and practice at a local dance studio. The
teachers will be able to give you a heads up if the
tempo is good or not
- When piping for an event that is not a competition,
talk to the teacher or senior dancers about the tempo
- Attend dance competitons to hear other pipers
play
- For a non-championship competition, play "fun
tunes" for premier level dancers
