Dear Friend

One of the prerequisites for reaching the highest state of radical freedom is the deep yearning, the intense longing for liberation - mumukshutva in Sanskrit - that the seeker must have to go through the fire, the tapasya, of the spiritual path.

Intense longing draws the grace of countless Buddhas, sages and saints to support one on the way.

Stoking the fire of that longing is part of the seeker's dharma.

Here is a sampling from Ivan Granger's newly published collection of poems titled Real Thirst to further inspire that yearning. I highly recommend it!

 Real Thirst
Poetry of the Spiritual Journey

 Ivan M. Granger (2012)

Dorothy Walters Book

Parched

The parched know -

real thirst
draws rainwater
from an empty sky.

p. 3

How Can I Explain?

Beloved, they want to know:
Did I reach up to You,
or did you reach out to me?

And they want know:
What is real
touch?

How can I explain

- we pour into each other.

p. 29

Good Night Moon

Beloved, tell me -

Why do you come
only when I
orphan my ambitions?

Why do you show
only when all hope
has fled?

Why, Honeyed Moon,
will you meet me
only on my funeral bed?

And, tell me -

Why won't the dead
stay dead?

p. 21

Thank you all for your notes of appreciation for our newsletter. It's great to hear from you!

Everyone has the heart to be a true friend of the soul, an "Anam Cara." By embodying that ideal ourselves we may serve to help others to find love and compassion within themselves and the world.

Our highest nature is always manifest in relationship - to all other beings, to the environment, in relation to our own body and mind. Becoming mindful of the quality of our relationships allows us to learn where the light shines and where it needs to shine more. The ideal of Anam Cara is to continuously endeavor to expand the depth and the inclusiveness of the loving kindness we bring into every relationship, every moment, every breath.

If you have any suggestions, comments or sharings, for our newsletter please don't hesitate to e-mail me and I'll do my best to respond.

The Anam Cara Foundation is a 501 (C) 3, non-profit educational organization dedicated to teaching meditative practices. Our non- denominational programs are open to all. There are free meditation instructions and downloadable audio files of guided meditations on the meditation page of our
