Saved by the Belt

There are many stories out there about crashes where people would have died without their safety belt.  One from Grand Island comes from Chuck Wagner, whose Isuzu pickup didn't fare well when someone coming toward him made an ill-timed left turn across his path. Fortunately Chuck was belted and didn't go through the windshield when his pickup's front crumple zone was thoroughly crumpled.

Rick Irwin from Omaha was T-boned on the driver's side when a red light runner hit him at a high rate of speed.  Rick's glasses flew out the passenger side window and his car was pushed in on the driver's side, but his safety belt kept him safely in his seat.

Do you have a story?  Would sharing it on the CIDRI facebook page help convince others that crashes happen and safety belts are important?  Either send your story to cidri@safenebraska.org or share it on Facebook.

Lunch and Learn
Click It presented a brief session on the importance of safety belts at a Lunch and Learn session at the Douglas County Hospital.  The attendees enjoyed their lunch while Cherie Ferber and Danielle Knudson presented the facts about safety belts.

Does your office offer lunch and learn sessions?  A seatbelt presentation can be an excellent addition to Honor Roll endeavors and an appropriate safety reminder before summer vacation season.
