Teens are the least likely group to be wearing belts, but the most likely group to experience a crash.

Safety Belts reduce fatalities and injuries by 45 to 50% in crashes.  Join us in encouraging Nebraska teens to buckle up, every trip, every time.

Can your school use an extra $1000?

Stay tuned on May 4, 2011 to see if you won $500 or $1000!

Greetings!

Odds are good for winning $1000 or the $500 runner up prizes since the pool of people in the drawing is still relatively small!  What would your school do with $1000?

Having trouble getting kids interested in doing parking lot checks?  Contact us at cidri@safenebraska.org, and we can put you in touch with the coalition members nearest you.  The Nebraska Coalition to Save Lives Through Safety Belt Usage has members throughout the state who are interested in promoting safety belt use.

Some schools have also had success with involving local law enforcement, hospital personnel, or service clubs to help with their observations.

There are also various resources available on our website, from stickers for those who are buckled up to safety vests for those who are observing the cars.   Check out our website under resources/free promotional materials
to order your free materials today!

Need more incentive?

AAA will provide free downloadable music cards to schools conducting safety belt checks.  The free music cards may be used as an incentive to give to students wearing their safety belt.  For more information, contact Rose White at RWhite@AAANE.com.  Provide the name of your school, the date of the check event, and an estimated number of the music cards needed.

And don't forget to send us your pictures and your great ideas for promoting safety belt use!

How high is the buckling rate in your county?  Some Nebraska counties are better than others in observed safety belt use.  The 2010 observed unweighted safety belt use percentages by county are:

Adams 50.6%   Box Butte  52.3%   Buffalo  54.7%  Cass  75.8%
Colfax  63.1%   Custer  46.7%   Dawson  51.3%   Douglas  80%
Gage  65.3%   Hall  62.5%   Holt  62.5%   Lancaster  73.2%
Lincoln  62%  Madison  67.8%  Sarpy  87.0%  Saunders  63.4%
Scotts Bluff  57.4%  Seward  82.9%  Washington  76.1%

Safety Belt Usage is one of your concerns as an educator.  What can you do to ensure that all the students at your school are buckling up every trip, every time so that they can be back at school tomorrow?  Your efforts make a difference!

There is still plenty of time
to sign up for Come Home Safe and to schedule 2 safety belt observations before our drawing date of May 4, 2011.
