Greetings!

Happy New Year 2011!  Time for new resolve on how to get Nebraska's buckled rate even higher.  The bad news is that our observed buckling rate has decreased from 85% in 2009 to 84% in 2010.

So, while everyone is in the mood for New Year's Resolutions about health--losing a few pounds, quitting smoking, exercising more--remind them that buckling up is important too.

And make your own resolution to spread the word--safety belts save lives.

Where the Primary Laws Are
Some states have primary safety belt laws, which means you can be ticketed simply for not wearing a belt.  Some states have secondary laws, which means you must receive a ticket for something else before you can get a ticket for lack of a safety belt.  Since Nebraska has a secondary law, we need to put even more effort into education about always buckling up.

St Robert Bellarmine Seatbelt Survey
Click It recently participated in a Safety Belt observation at St. Robert Bellarmine grade school in Omaha.  Results of the first observation were a little over 90% belted, including one dog.

If their second observation goes as well, they will soon be on the Click It--Don't Risk It Honor Roll, with a certificate signed by the Governor and the opportunity to attend a proclamation ceremony in Lincoln.

How about your group?  Are you on the Honor Roll?
The "Click It Chronicle," our Click It Campaign e-letter, published whenever there is news, is available to all those interested in increasing safety belt usage.  Please share this information freely. Take the information, copy to friends, businesses and organizations with the same concerns.  Using the information provided will help reduce the needless fatalities and injuries on our highways and the associated costs. To subscribe to this e-letter, join the coalition, or be removed from the list, contact the Click It Team at cidri@safenebraska.org.
