Greetings!
Click It Don't Risk It is conducting our third annual Come Home Safe campaign for safety belt awareness at high schools throughout Nebraska during the 2010-2011 school. Book covers, brochures and posters are going out to all high schools this week, and we've had lots of help from some great volunteers in order to get these packages put together. A very BIG THANK YOU to
our volunteers who helped us get our 2010 Come Home Safe project packed and
sent out the door to all 319 Nebraska High Schools. Pictured from left to right are: Joe Knudson, Nick Matthew, and Isaac Shields. All of our mailing volunteers were: Joe and Nick Knudson, Nick
Matthew, Isaac Shields,
JeVaun
Brown, Jemal
Malik-Hakim Shabazz, Taylor Greene, and Anna Couch. They deserve a great big pat on the back for all their
hard work. These young people
donated a combined total of 38 hours over their last days of summer vacation to
help us complete this important project. THANKS EVERYONE! Our new campaign is called: "Congratulations, you're the best driver in the World. But buckle up anyway." Here are our new materials: A poster, a brochure, and of course, a book cover. These materials are available to order on our website. |
Norfolk Junior Optimists win a AAA grant!

AAA presented Norfolk Public Schools
with three grants totaling $750 to support its local "Click-it, Don't Risk
it" education initiatives. The funds may be used for seat belt
challenges, mock car crash demonstrations, and other efforts to educate
students of all ages about the importance of buckling-up each and every time
they enter a vehicle. Under the leadership of their
advisor, Mark Claussen, the students have become involved in safety education
efforts as members of their local Junior Optimist Octagon International (JOOI)
clubs. Mark found out about the AAA grants via the Click It Chronicle, and we're so glad to have helped to facilitate this partnership! Students representing Norfolk Middle
School, Junior High, and Senior High, accepted the contributions from AAA
branch manager Mary Novotne and AAA insurance agent Maynard Ohl. As a national leader in traffic
safety for more than 100 years, AAA strongly supports safety belt education
efforts by providing grants to high schools. In addition, the Cornhusker
Motor Club Foundation, which is supported largely by AAA and its members,
provides financial support to law enforcement agencies to purchase education
equipment. During the past ten years, AAA and the Cornhusker Motor Club
Foundation have provided funds to help obtain five safety belt roll-over units
for the Nebraska State Patrol. These units, that are utilized
statewide, provide an impactful demonstration of the importance of wearing a
safety belt. For more information on AAA's
traffic safety mini-grant program, or their downloadable music cards which are
available as rewards for safety belt checks, contact Rose White at

Nebraska State Patrol Trooper Bill
Price and Norfolk Public School program advisor Mark Claussen were present for
the grant award presentation from AAA. Courtney Cowling, Katrina
Klabunde, Halie Hoenne, and Kayla Klabunde, accepted the contributions from Marilyn
Muir and Maynard Ohl of AAA.

Supplies of downloadable cards are limited, and would be terrific incentives for the Come Home Safe checks.
