Greetings!
Some news stories are more blunt than others.  For example, in this article, "Troopers say a seat belt would have saved his life."

Regardless of the myriad of reasons a crash can occur, if a crash actually happens, injuries and fatalities are reduced by 45-50% with the use of a safety belt.

A short article about a traffic crash and an unfortunate fatality.

Click It or Ticket
The annual Click It or Ticket campaign ended on June 6.  However, the need for safety belts never ends.  Whether or not there is a potential safety belt ticket, it's always a good idea to buckle up.

The Detroit News reported "Among states, Michigan led with 98 percent of its motorists buckling up, followed by Hawaii with 97.9 percent, Oregon with 96.6 percent and Washington state with 96.4 percent. Fifteen states and the District of Columbia had a seat belt use of 90 percent or better"

Nebraska is averaging 85%, which is better than the national average of 84%, but we still have work to do!

It's fun to break eggs
The egg ramp is back from its self guided tour of Nebraska.  It's been to Norfolk, Burwell, Bassett, and Valentine without a Click It chaperone.  On its visit to Rock County, it found willing demonstrators, and kids intereBassett 2sted in the physics of a crash. Garrett Weidner and Steve Anderson of the Rock County Sherriff's office demonstrate ramp crashes for the Rose and Newport school children.

Bassett 3

Cathy Clark from Rock County Memorial Hospital demonstrates the ramp to the Bassett Grade School 5th and 6th graders.

The egg ramp is the perfect way to demonstrate the importance of a safety belt in a crash.  Anyone can see what will happen when the car is lined up for a crash.

The ramp is available for your use.  If you're invited to kids' safety events, the ramp is a fun way to demonstrate the need for a safety belt.
The "Click It Chronicle," our Click It Campaign e-letter, published whenever there is news, is available to all those interested in increasing safety belt usage.  Please share this information freely.
