Greetings!
News from Norfolk:
Mark Claussen emails,
"Just wanted to share
that the Norfolk MS held safety belt compliance checks with the Norfolk PD on
May 4 & 11 with compliance rates of 93 & 95% respectively. The
Nebraska State Patrol was there on Tuesday for rollover presentations to all 6th/7th
graders. We have one final check at the Norfolk Jr. High on May 18 and
rollover presentations that day as well!" Wow--the 6th/7th graders are doing great, and putting many adults to shame with their success in promoting safety belt usage. They're also outdoing many other towns. How does your group compare? Are your numbers in line with Norfolk? Go Norfolk Middle! |
Come Home Safe Awards!

The Come Home Safe project for 2010 is complete. The Come Home Safe name stems from Homecoming, an annual fall event for Nebraska high schools--but the desire for all Nebraska kids to come home safe is true all year round. Winning schools were simply drawn from the list of participants. There was no weight given for results, only the requirement that the schools both completed the required observations and provided some education about safety belts during the course of the program.
The $1000 grand prize was awarded to Howells-Clarkson high school. No picture is available from their award event, but they showed results of 89% at both their first and second observations.
$500 went to Wahoo High School. Pictured from left are: Ryan Mueller, Cherie Ferber (Click It--Don't Risk It), Anmerie Schirmer, Morgan Hancock, Morgan Talbert,

Wahoo achieved good results, with a 74% from the first observation increasing to an 81% for the second observation.
The other $500 went to Marian High School in Omaha. Their observations showed the highest usage of the 3 schools, with 93% the first observation that increased to 96% the second time. It just makes their result more impressive when you know that they checked around 400 cars each time. Accepting their check was Megan Piernicki, student board advisor, and
Josie
Bettger, who will be a senior next year and she is the newly
elected Student Board President. Megan states that she is an all around amazing kid!
This observation holds true for all of the students involved in Come Home Safe. We appreciate all of the efforts that went into all of the Come Home Safe projects. The real reward for all of us is an outstanding safety belt usage rate in Nebraska and having all Nebraskans come home safe!
