Greetings!
Brrr--winter driving is upon us, with the accompanying slick spots, darkness, and occasional malfunctioning of the car's vital functions. Since no amount of preparation on your part can guarantee that every driver won't experience some kind of difficulty, don't forget to emphasize safety belt use for yourself, your family, your coworkers, and everyone else.
Plus, there's always operator error--such as the one that affected me on Friday. I was driving down the street, when someone leaving a parking lot neglected to look to see that I was in front of him. He determined that there was no one to his right, but unfortunately I came from the left. Being run into from the side wasn't really what I expected, although evidently he wasn't expecting me to be there either. While I'm fine, my car isn't.
Thanks for all you do to encourage safety belt use. Safety belts save lives!
Don't forget! Click It--Don't Risk It!

November Honor Roll
|
|
Governor Dave Heineman's November Proclamation included 3 groups being recognized for outstanding safety belt use.
The three groups were Plattsmouth High School, Faith Regional
Health Services, and Alegent Health at Home.
Plattsmouth High School Faith Regional Health ServicesAlegent Health at HomeCongratulations to these groups for taking the extra effort and making the extra step to ensure their employees or high school students will get to work or school and home safely. No wellness plan is complete without addressing the vital need to wear a safety belt. When driving is the single most dangerous thing that most of us do, safety belts may be the single most important piece of safety gear that we use on a daily basis.

Faith Regional Health Services poster
|
|
Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk achieved Honor Roll recognition in November. To promote and educate their staff about safety belts between their observations, they developed a poster celebrating an employee's personal experience with a safety belt.
The poster states:
Just ask Susan Hanlon. Her daughter and a friend know there was a reason they buckled up that day.
These two teenagers were on a gravel road in Wayne County when they met another vehicle on a hill. They swerved to miss it and lost control of the car. The car rolled two or three times and caught on fire.
Had they not been wearing their seat belts, the girls might have been ejected or tossed around the interior of the car. This could have been fatal or severely injured the girls preventing them from getting out of the vehicle.
Most people don't plan for this kind of stop. Will you?
This poster refers to a daughter, but any of your employees could have the same experience with any friend or family member. This company promotes safety belts for its employees. This mom promotes safety belts for her children. Fortunately this daughter took that message to heart and was buckled out on her own.
Your insistence on belts at your company may have far-reaching effects and may have your employees thanking you for your concern for safety.
