Greetings!
NEBRASKA BEATS OKLAHOMA!

You thought this referred to football, didn't you?  An even more important statistic is that Nebraska is reporting 85% buckled compared to Oklahoma's 84%

It's vital that both Nebraskans and Oklahomans get the message about the importance of safety belts!  Safety belts are more important than football!

Let's go, Coalition!  Let's get the word out in Nebraska that safety belts should be worn every trip, every time.

Oklahoma Highway Safety

Omaha Door and Window
Click It went to a recent Safety Meeting at Omaha Door and Window.  We talked about physics and how belts save lives; we showed the video "Diana's Last Message", and we demonstrated the egg crash display.
Omaha Door and Window
Omaha Door and Window has a company policy that specifies that employees driving company vehicles must wear their safety belts.  The penalty for noncompliance is a day off without pay.

While this is an outstanding policy for any company to adopt, at Omaha Door and Window, they have personal experience with a crash fatality.  2 years ago one of their employees was killed in a crash.  It turned out to be the kind of crash that is not survivable even though both he and the other driver were belted.  It's a difficult way to find out about the reality of suddenly losing a well-liked employee.  On happier notes, there have been times that the policy has paid off and the employee involved in a crash has lived to tell the tale.

Omaha Door and Window sponsors regular safety meetings, and endorsed safety belts as a basic tenet of wellness and safety at this one.

Don't forget about safety belts in your company's policy!

Come Home Safe

Click It is sponsoring Come Home Safe again this year, with the change of extending the deadline to spring to encompass Prom safety belt checks.  Be sure that your local high school is involved!  Offer to help with safety belt checks when they do their observations!

The Come Home Safe project has won another award for its creative approach to ensuring the safety of Nebraska teens.  This award is from the National Safety Council and was awarded to Kay Farrell, President and CEO of the Greater Omaha Chapter at their meeting in Florida during October.

Natl Safety Council awardNational Safety Council, Greater Omaha Chapter, received the  2009 Community Safety and Health Campaign Award in recognition of the outstanding work done by the Click It team in the Come Home Safe campaign!  Pictured from left at the local staff conference in Omaha are Cherie Ferber, Melanie Miterajpeg come home logo, and Danielle Knudson.  Cherie and Danielle work exclusively with Click It and developed and implemented Come Home Safe, while Melanie is the graphic artist at the National Safety Council Greater Omaha Chapter.  Melanie developed the Come Home Safe logo and did all of the other artwork for the project.

The Council was honored with a plaque and picture at the NSC Chapter Division Awards Luncheon.  Thirty two chapters in two tiers compete annually for the Community Safety Award.  The Greater Omaha Chapter has been the recipient for many years.
