What can YOU do about increasing Nebraska Safety Belt use?

"past safety initiatives like seat belts have shown that a simple ban often isn't enough to get drivers to change their habits unless it's accompanied by education and enforcement"

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood was talking about the problem of drivers texting while driving. Texting and cell phone use is a huge problem for drivers that makes safety belts even more important for the rest of us.

You can:
  • Implement company policy that requires safety belt use.
  • Help enforce existing policy.
  • Hold a Health Fair that emphasizes safety belt use as a basic tenet of wellness.
  • Work with kids to educate them about safety belt use.
  • Hang posters that reinforce the buckle up message.
  • Print reminders in company newsletters or put messages on a bulletin board or outdoor sign.
  • Put up outdoor signs  in your company parking lot.
  • Participate in the HONOR ROLL.  Successful Honor Roll observations reward your company or group with a certificate and recognition from Governor Heineman.

Region 6 Behavioral Health knows about behavioral health.

That's one reason they participated in the Click It--Don't Risk It Honor Roll safety belt survey.  Wearing a safety belt reduces fatalities and injuries by up to 55% in crashes.

Congratulations to Region 6 Behavioral Health for their gold Honor Roll distinction!  Their observed buckling rates are well over 90%.  How's the behavior at your company?  Try an Honor Roll observation and see whether your colleagues buckle up!

Travel and Transport achieves Honor Roll Gold!

Travel and Transport takes their name seriously as well, and they know that traveling by car requires safety belt use.  Whether you're on a great road trip or on your way to work, buckle up every trip, every time.

Employees at Travel and Transport take that safety message so seriously that nearly everyone at that organization wears their safety belt on the way to work and on the way home. 

While unable to attend the proclamation, Travel and Transport places high value on ensuring their employees are buckled up on the way to work.  Congratulations on achieving buckling observation rates at well over 90%, earning Honor Roll gold.
