Greetings!
Maybe it's the spring weather, but the news has brought reports of multiple crashes.  Many times I've asked myself "What were they thinking?" since sometimes there is an approach to driving that is hard to understand.  It's always good to read that safety belts have saved lives though, and we can always hope that the drivers will learn from their experience and adopt a more cautious approach in the future.

What if the Nebraska Safety Belt Use Rate was 90%?

NHTSA has released a new report showing that Nebraska would save 23 lives and over $76 million each year if safety belt use rose to at least 90%.

So, keep up the good work in all you do to promote the use of safety belts!

Nebraska's seatbelt rates are increasing, but we're not there yet!

NHTSA's numbers on Nebraska safety belt use show that we were at 70.2% in 2001, and we're up to 82.6% in 2008!  We've improved by more than 12% in 7 short years!

Unfortunately, the numbers don't improve every year, and our progress is sometimes of the 1 step forward, 2 steps back variety.

So there is still work to do, and The Nebraska Coalition to Save Lives Through Safety Belt Usage is still needed!  Each of you makes a difference and has an important mission left to accomplish!
