Greetings!
I watched Live Free or Die Hard last night. In the midst of all the mayhem and death-defying stunts, Bruce Willis advised his young companion to "buckle up". I imagine the director was going for irony--every-day sort of safety when there is danger all around.
For most of us though, since we don't have loads of bad guys after us, driving is the single most dangerous thing we do on a daily basis. So, take some advice from Bruce, "buckle up" and tell your traveling companions the same.

UNO Wellness Stampede Achieves a place on the Honor Roll! |
|
The University of Nebraska at Omaha's Wellness Stampede is working hard to promote wellness in many different ways. But in the overall picture of exercise and eating right, UNO is placing a high priority on a basic--buckling up. Dave Daniels and Jessica Dozark accept a well-deserved Honor Roll certificate from Governor Heineman.
College students are learning many things during those intense years. It's a great time to form a safety belt habit!
But it's never too late--while your employees may be past college age, try the Honor Roll observation process with your employees and let them know their wellness is important!

Immigrants need extra safety belt information |
|
|
Click It recently presented Safety Belt information to an organization in Omaha called the Karen Society of Nebraska.
It is an organization recently started by Karen refugees (from Burma). There are around 1,000 Karen refugees in Omaha now. The organization's mission is to help Karen refugees reach and sustain self-sufficiency and achieve successful integration into the Omaha community. Part of being self-sufficient and integrated is knowing how to be safe in their new home.
Most of the Karen have very little experience with cars prior to moving to the US. Therefore, they are unaware of the dangers of not wearing a seatbelt, do not know laws regarding how many people can ride in one car, or about car seats for young children.
With education, that approach to driving and cars will change. Are there groups in your community who need similar education? Click It has materials and presentations appropriate for a variety of groups. |
