Some people have asked me...

I have a loved one going in to hospital for surgery. Is there anything that can help prevent MRSA or other hospital acquired infections?
Yes, there is! There are at least 15 essential oils that have been scientifically documented to be effective against MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphulococcus Aureus).
It is also important to know that MRSA and some other hospital acquired infections are carried through the air as well as touch. Any effective strategy must address the airborn issue.
We recommend the following:
1 - Have every single person who enters the hospital room clean their hands using Purely Fresh Hand Cleanser/Disinfectant. Purely Fresh contains 4 of the essential oils effective against MRSA - Lavender, Lemongrass, Lime (Distilled) and Tea Tree. in a base of Witch Hazel. (We wrote about this extensively last September - (to view that article, click here and scroll down towards the bottom of the page.)
2-To help keep the air clean, use a Fan Fuser diffuser and our Hospital Blend. This blend contains Lemongrass,
Lavender, Eucalyptus radiata and Thyme Red - some very powerful "bug"
killers. Put a couple of drops of the essential oil blend onto the
filter of the Fan Fuser, plug it in, turn it on, and you have a highly
effective means of keeping the air around your loved one clean.
3-Demand that ties or anything else that may dangle from a health professionals neck be tucked in or removed so that the patient is not accidentally brushed by it. Remember, you are the customer, and you have every right to make requests that will keep your loved one as healthy as possible.

Featured Product Petitgrain
PETITGRAIN
(Citrus aurantium var. amara)
This
essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves and twigs of the bitter orange
tree in Paraguay.
This same tree also provides two other oils: Bitter orange made from the
rind, and Neroli which is made from the orange blossoms.
Scent wise Petitgrain has a bitter top note, with a middle note that is
woody, herbaceous and as the oil dries from the surface it is on (dry-out) its scent is a sweet, rich floral.
Therapeutically,
this oil is antidepressant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, anti-infectious,
anti-inflammatory, antibacterial (staph, pneumococcus), wound healing,
deodorizing, a digestive stimulant, and balancing to the Central Nervous System. It is commonly used to treat acne, excessive
perspiration, oily skin, gas, heartburn, nausea as well as cramping due to
digestive upset. Its relaxing properties
help to calm rapid heartbeat and insomnia.
This
crisp and clear essential oil is quite useful in boosting the conscious
intellectual side of your mind, while calming anger and fear that can hold you
back. In the Aromatherapy Insight Cards, Jennifer Jefferies, ND, states, "Fresh and
stimulating, Petitgrain helps you access stored thoughts and memories that you
may not have been using. Stay fluid when
moving between conscious and subconscious state. Access the information you require to achieve
success in your life. You know what you
need to do, it is time to trust the knowing."
Petitgrain
oil is in general non-toxic, non-irritanting, non-sensitizing and non-phototoxic. It can be used in massage, as a compress, in the bath,
in ointments and skin care products, and through inhalation.

The Magic of Shea Butter
SHEA BUTTER (Butyrospermum parkii) is also
known as Karite. The Karite tree grows in the savannahs of equatorial Africa, and is regarded as mystical by many of the native population - in fact, some have reported that Karite means "Life" in the native tongue. This tree produces fruits that contain
seeds from which the butter is extracted.
The native people where this tree grows use the butter for cooking as
well as for treating sprains, muscular pain, and inflammation. This highly moisturizing, luxuriant, semi-soft
substance is used in Aromatherapy as a carrier of essential oils especially
where there is pain, damaged, dry or aging skin. Shea butter is used to treat skin ulcers,
prevent stretch marks, improves capillary circulation, and to protect the skin
from the sun (rated as about 8 SPF). We
carry both yellow and white wildcrafted shea butter. Yellow Shea
has a sweet, nutty smell and is a little heavier but is absorbed into the skin
quickly and leaves a silky feel without a greasy residue. White Shea
has virtually no scent and is a little lighter in texture. It too is quickly absorbed into the skin
leaving the skin soft and supple.
Shea
Butter is wonderful to use in massage, with or without essential oils. Any of our Shea butter blends could be used
in massage, but many massage therapists have used Shea ++ which is made from a blend of White Shea Butter and Fractionated
Coconut oil. Some have added a drop of
an essential oil selected specifically for their client into a tablespoon of
the Shea ++ for a full body massage...a
little goes a long way! Its organic, all
nature created, creamy, goes on smoothly and does not leave a greasy feel. What a treat for client and therapist alike!
With the
cooler, dryer weather approaching many of us experience dry skin, sometimes to
the extent where there is flaking, itching, redness, and skin irritation due to
scratching. One of our best Shea Butter
Balms is Maxi Moist. This is made with Yellow Shea Butter, Jojoba
oil, and the essential oils of Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens), Rosewood
(Aniba rosaeodora), and Frankincense (Boswellia
carteri) essential oils. The
Geranium is for the itching, sluggish lymphatics, and damaged skin. Rosewood is for dry, sensitive, inflamed, and
damaged skin. We use Frankincense for dry, aged, wrinkled skin and skin that is slow
to heal. This is also a great blend to
use if the damage has become a wound or if there are pressure sores. It smells heavenly and works very well.
