Some people have asked me...
What are the italicized Latin words in parenthesis next to the name of an oil?
These are the Botanical names of the oils. It is extremely important to me that you know exactly what you are getting. Some of the common names can be referring to any one of two, three, and sometimes several different Botanical names. Each Botanical name represents a different product. And different products often have very different properties and uses. As we can see from the history section of the Ravensara article above, this difference can be crucial.

New Faces & Products
If you have called LovingScents lately or visited our booth at the Raleigh Body, Mind, Spirit Expo, you have heard the voice of or met Carole Taylor, our new Administrative Assistant. Carole brings years of experience in marketing, strong administrative skills and a love of essential oils. We feel very fortunate to have Carole as an integral part of our team. Warning to all callers: Carole's and Cindy's voices sound very much alike - you may want to know to whom you are talking prior to disclosing your life history, or not.
NEW PRODUCTS We have added new products to our list and will add more in the next several months. Three of these exciting new additions are:
FRESHLY NATURAL Powdered Deodorant - after talking with several women who have been treated for breast cancer and learning that some of their physicians have been advising them to stop using commercial antiperspirants/deodorants due to the toxic substances, we decided to begin making Freshly Natural. This product is made of Aluminum Free Baking Powder, Organic Corn Starch, organic dried herbs of Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus). As with almost every product we offer, we tested this on ourselves, family members and close friends. We found this deodorant to be more effective than the commercial products we have used for years, it doesn't have a strong "perfumy" odor, goes a very long way and does not cause irritation. We are offering this product in 4oz and 8oz sizes that include a powder puff for easy application. To order, go to the MarketPlace/Personal Care at LovingScents.com or click here. ITCHY GO GO - Summer is beginning to wane, the temperature is dropping a few degrees but the biting bugs will be with us until the first real cold spell. If you forgot to use your Bye Bye Buggie Bug Deterrent and a wee beastie has chosen you for dinner now is the time to pull out this wonderful 10ml roll-on to relieve the swelling and itch. The combination of Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), Tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) and Peppermint (Mentha piperita) calms the irritation, decreases the swelling and helps prevent infection if the area has been scratched open. This product is undiluted essential oils - it is not to be used on children under 5 years of age or anyone with a sensitivity to the to the ingredients (we suggest Lavender and/or Chamomile Roman for these folks). To order, go to the Market Place/Blends at LovingScents.com or click here.
PURELY FRESH HAND CLEANSER/DISINFECTANT - Yes, we were paying attention! After hearing many complaints from hospital workers, massage therapists and others about the waterless hand sanitizers causing dermatitis and other skin challenges, we decided to create our own. We are proud to present a waterless hand disinfectant that is gentle to the skin, smells great and is free of the skin irritants found in the products in most stores. Purely Fresh contains Witch Hazel extract, Ethyl Alcohol, Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) distilled Lime (Citrus medica), Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citrates), Tea tree (Melaleuca alternafolia) with a dash of Xanthan gum. Witch Hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) is a strong anti-oxidant, and astringent that possesses cleansing, soothing and healing properties. Ethyl Alcohol, also known as Grain Alcohol, is a powerful antiseptic and anti-bacterial. Lavender is antibacterial, anti-infectious (staph-pigmented), reduces inflammation, antiseptic, antiviral and wound healing. Lime distilled is antibacterial, antiseptic, antiviral, astringent, and disinfectant. Lemongrass is antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, wide ranging antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiseptic and astringent. Tea tree is anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic and wound healing. To order, go to the MarketPlace/Personal Care at LovingScents.com or click here for the 2oz size and here for the 4oz size.
Why choose Purely Fresh over the other common hand sanitizers found in stores? Here's why - just check out this list of some of the ingredients found in the other products:
isopropyl alcohol - is a solvent that upon inhalation of the vapors can cause headaches, flushing, dizziness, mental depression, nausea, vomiting and coma carbomer - is a synthetic polymer of acrylic acid produced from propylene, is absorbed through the skin or through ingestion, is severely irritating and corrosive to the skin, eye contact can result in corneal burns, inhalation may cause irritation to the respiratory tract, drowsiness or headache fragrance - is almost if not always artificial with many components that are carcinogenic or toxic in other ways, can be made up of 4,000 different ingredients - most or totally synthetic, have been associated with headaches, dizziness, rashes, skin discoloration, coughing, vomiting, allergic skin irritation, depression, hyperactivity, irritability, hormonal imbalance and behavioral changes aminomethyl propanol - emulsifying agent, is known to cause irritation to eyes, skin, nose, throat and respiratory system *AND* propylene glycol - a penetration enhancer that in government studies has been linked to cancer, developmental and reproductive problems, developmental delays in children, damage to the brain and nervous system, immune system malfunctions, reproductive malfunctions, and is a known irritant to eyes, lungs and skin - at a mere 2% concentration it has been found to cause skin irritation and sensitization yet it has been approved for use of up to a 50% concentration
