Our newsletter has been in the works to publish since late December and all of January, but repeatedly delayed due to our web server issues!! Hopefully most all are resolved and we can get back to our more important (and fun!) work of sharing new colors and products -- and shipping silk the world over!
2009 was another growth year for FCS, with lots of improvements and new products. You'll be surely glad to know that we've even been hiring, and are so thrilled to have a new shipper on board, Diane, who is eager to assist getting silk to all corners of the world in a timely fashion. I am so excited to have assistance with this important task... and we know you'll love the improved service!

This pretty new colorstyle was concocted alongside a recent custom order. Our customer had an upcoming performance and had ordered a beautiful Cupid half circle, but found the plum wine portion too intense, needing more pinks and apricot tones. She also needed to match with some ivory.
This color palette is very popular with warm earth tones and pinks, the colors work with a wide array of costumes. Within fashion and costuming there is extensive need for deep apricots, pinks, and roses. Hopefully this color helps fill a much needed offering!
Meanwhile, we have added this lovely new colorstyle 'JANUARY NAMING SILK', Orderable in 5mm veil, 8mm veil, and of course, under any product on our site under 'nonstock colorstyle.'

now offer First Class Shipping Options
You'll be so pleased to know we are turning an eye
towards improving our posted shipping charges and the actual rates for
shipping. We frequently ship small orders so this option is now available
to our US and Canadian customers. With the high cost of
shipping, we work hard to charge only actual costs.
For our International Customers:
We will be adding Priority International options shortly
which for very small orders is the safest fast route. Once orders are
over about 2lbs, it is better to use Express International for its fastest procedure
through customs, lower cost insurances and more.
For our Domestic and Canadian Customers:
We now offer First Class Shipping for as low as $3.00!
This option will be clearly available at checkout for small orders!
If you are ever in doubt about your shipping charges, rest
assured! Simply select the Bill Shipping Later
option at checkout and we will get an accurate shipping cost with your order.
We will be further fine tuning shipping so that accurate and
specialized country charges are well-calculated. A new

New Chiffon!
Everybody said it couldn't be done!
REAL SILK CHIFFON -- THAT FLOATS!!
This improved length of our 100% Silk Chiffon now
in 45 x 98 inches improves LOFT! You will be amazingly
pleased with the float of this airy and light real silk chiffon...
it is the closest we have seen of a silk chiffon moving similarly to our
famed ultralight habotai veils......
Chiffon is a more open weave than that of habotai,
which is the weave of silk used for a 'silk veil'
Chiffon is a weave also, and frequently in the dance world, chiffon is implied
as a 'non-silk' because it is usually materials
composed of synthetics. Either way, chiffon (silk or
other) doesn't move the way habotai silks do, because the
Weave is very open in a chiffon fabric. The weave openness allows for
lots of air to move through rather than be captured.....
With our new chiffon silk veil, we have shortened the length
so as to reduce the drag of dead-weight fabric on the ends.... Leaving
us with a magnificently cloud-floating Chiffon silk.
Chiffon dyes beautifully, very vivid, intense, vibrant
colors.

 We have recently added a " Natural White Product" Section for all of your own personal dying needs! In the children's toys we also have colorful felted wool balls. Bamboo Fan Veil Staves are now available for purchase in three sizes! Also, our fan veil section is undergoing some reorganization so please be patient with us while we get that under way. We also have an Instock Fan Veil Section so you can view what fan veils are available for immediate shipping. There is also an instock satin pillowcase section! January 2010 Price Increases
Customers! We are underway implementing price increases. These will go into effect immediately. All orders quoted or placed before the pricings are posted will be honored.
You will find our Made In USA toy products have actually LOWERED to make them easier for pricing the same across all skirts and capes!
Our inhouse dance items are also basically the same.
Mostly imported silk prices on veil are where changes are seen....
A NOTE ABOUT OUR PRICE INCREASES: We work very hard to offer stable and competitive pricings, only adjusting pricing generally every 12-18months. We have worked consistently to reduce our costs in many ways. However, with large increases (approx 40%) in silk yarns since Summer 2009, the plain fact is we have real price increases. Also, as we grow, we must cover expenses for necessary employee costs. Our standards are very high for product and service, and we continue this commitment into 2010! Brenda, our Fan Maker Extraordinaire shows us some tips on how to identify fans for (all of us) novices! Take a look at the photo to follow:
The contrasting color shown in this pair is Orchid. This piece is a fully assembled piece that allow for no raw edges or stave blades.
More importantly, the Fan Fronts offer a wonderful chance to make color contrasting choices and are very significant in proving LOFT to your fan!
Many fans are poorly constructed to be 'right hand pairs'
There is a lot of confusion in the dance world as to how to hold Fan veils to identify is it a Left or Right Hand Fan.
The biggest important factor is how it is closing when you are moving with it.
Paired fans will be facing inward and close symmetrically.
See the following suite of pictures to learn some easily recognized signs of which fan you are holding.
Here is How to Identify (L) Left and (R) Right Handed Fans.
If dancing with one fan, you will want to learn to have them correctly paired. Some dancers after dancing with two right hand fans will indeed go to the trouble to learn to use them correctly
