 | SUMMER PORTRAITS

|
Greetings!
|

If you're like me, many of your fondest memories revolve around the events of the summer. Picnics, parades, vacations, family get-togethers, and special times with family and friends all come together to create the magical memories of summer. We even mark the passage of time by referring to the summer of a specific year or the summer we all vacationed together. Summers take us back to childhood memories of good times.
I urge you to keep your camera handy and record these summer events and to share them with friends and family. With today's technology, sending Grandma a photo of the kids from the beach is just a mouse click away, and it will make all the difference in Grandma's day. There's no excuse not to do it.
I also encourage you to take some time to consider having your Fletcher portrait created this summer. Take advantage of the fine weather, vacation tans, and the family's more flexible summer schedule. When the cold weather rolls in, the kids are back in school, and we're all spending more time indoors, you'll be glad that you took the time this summer to have your special portraits created.

Here's what Gina Christman has to say about her experience of having portraits done by Jay.

PHOTO TIP - VARY YOUR FOCUS
|
Adjusting the focus of your image can create an interesting and strongly appealing photograph. Notice that the image on the left is very sharply focused on the subject, but very "soft" on the background.
It's an interesting look that focuses the attention of the viewer strongly on the subject of the image. There are two basic ways to accomplish this effect, and you will impress your friends when you master the technique. In this case, I used a 400mm lens that compresses the background. Focusing on the subject with this lens creates just the right effect.
Another way to achieve a similar result is to photograph in a manual setting with a wide-open f-stop. An f-stop of 2.8 to 4.0 works well for this effect. This photographic technique helps to visually focus the viewer's attention on the subject and makes you look like a real pro. Remember to place the subject slightly off center and voila!
