Is It Ever OK to
Withhold Love
From Your Teen?
No. It's never OK to withhold love, especially as a form of punishment. In adolescents, our kids are longing, striving and needing to experience our love more than ever before. I know... some of you are thinking "You don't know my kid, she wants nothing to do with me or my love." I understand why you think that but I can assure you it is not true!
If they can't depend on your unconditional love, even when they make their biggest mistakes, then they are bound to seek that love elsewhere and in much less desirable places. Teens need boundaries and consequences that come from a place of love, respect and instruction. Strive to show your love consistently... even when you are angry, disappointed and hurt.
