Please allow us to introduce our 2011 Campaign Co-Chairs, Stan Saalman and Matt McClester
Stan Saalman has been the Health Commissioner for the Mansfield/Ontario/Richland Cty Health District for the past 18 years. He has a Law Degree and Masters in Science and Education. He is a member of Kappa Delta Pi, the Honor Society in Education. He is the past president of the Richland County Regional Planning Commission, Richland County Solid Waste Authority, and Mansfield Kiwanis Club. Stan is the Chair of the Richland County Child Fatality Review Board and a member of the Richland County Jail Advisory Board, Richland County Suicide Prevention Committee, Youth and Family Council, the Local Emergency Planning Committee and the Canton Regional Area Health Education Center Board of Directors. Stan is also a member of the RSVP, Retired Senior Volunteer Board, CERT (Certified Emergency Response Team) Board, and Medical Reserve Corp Board He has been married to his wife Benda, formally Brenda Brinkerhoff, for 14 years and has three children Ryan Saalman, Carli Mitchell, and Bethany Merritt.
Matt McClester has been inspired by Heroes like his Grandmother Bernice McClester and Aunt Jean Swartz to honor our blessings by giving back to our communities through organizations such as United Way. Matt grew up in Ashland Ohio and graduated from Ashland Senior High School in 1989.He began working in the Masonry Construction Industry in 1991 and was accepted into the apprenticeship program for the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local #40-Mansfield in June of 2000. He attended the pre-apprenticeship program at Fort Ritchie, Maryland and four years of apprenticeship training sponsored by the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local #40 through the Adult Education Program at the Pioneer Career Center. Matt received his Journeyman Bricklayer Classification in 2004, was elected Financial/Recording Secretary in 2006, appointed Political Director in 2008, and appointed as Field Representative of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local #40-Mansfield in 2009.Matt is married to Christine, and has four children Megan, Rachel, Michael, and Samuel. He is President of his local Historical Society, Chairman of the Trustees Committee at Lakeview Methodist Church, and looks forward to representing BAC Local #40 and the Richland-Crawford AFL-CIO while serving as the 2011 United Way Campaign Co-Chair.

United Way of Richland County Names a New Executive Director

Bob Maxey, Executive Director
|
United Way of Richland County welcomes Robert E. Maxey as its new Executive Director.
"I speak for the both the United Way Board of Trustees and the United Way staff by saying that we are all thrilled to have Bob lead our team," said United Way of Richland County Board of Trustees President, Karin Turowski. "His presence in the community as head of the local American Red Cross and his support of United Way as a volunteer speak volumes for how he feels about our organization. We look forward to a great future with Bob!"
Bob began his career of helping others in 1979 as a Trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol. As District Commander, he was responsible for 204 employees assigned to 6 patrol posts that provided traffic services to nine Ohio counties. After retiring as a Captain from the Highway Patrol in 2006, Bob began his second career in the non-profit world as the Executive Director of the American Red Cross Galion Chapter. In May of 2009, he took over the Richland Chapter and later began to also oversee the Ashland Chapter.
Bob is a graduate of Madison Comprehensive High School, a Deacon at Berean Baptist Church, Area Director of Gideon's International and President of the Board of Trustee for the Richland Community Service Center. He is married to JoAnn and has three children Derrick (Kirstin), Sara, and Emily. Bob and his family reside in Lexington, Ohio.
