In response to the feedback from our survey, we are pleased to announce a new monthly networking event for our members. As its name implies, this monthly mixer, will be held the first Thursday of every month at the new Lupe Tortilla in the Heights from 4:30 - 6:00 pm. The event will be limited to members only. EDUCATION 
INTRODUCTION TO CONSTRUCTION PLANS AND DOCUMENT READING - August 8, 2011
This class is held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for two consecutive weeks.   Students will work with actual plans and construction documents.  They will learn to read documents related to site work and foundations, building structures, masonry and finishes.
 
BIM UNIT 4: PROCESS ADOPTION AND INTEGRATION -
August 16, 2011
BIM Process, Adoption, and Integration is a full-day (8-hour) course that provides a foundation for participants to establish and execute the BIM process, facilitate its adoption, and achieve integration on a single project and at a company level to execute multiple BIM projects simultaneously.

SAFETY 
OSHA 30-HOUR- August 3, 2011
This course is held every Wednesday in the month of August. This course is designed for project management, site supervision, & field employees involved in the construction industry. Many owners are now requiring that site supervision obtain the 30 Hour constructionoutreach training program as an orientation to occupational safety and health covered by OSHA 29 CFR 1926.

DAVIS  BACON ACT: COMPLIANCE PRIMER FOR CONTRACTORS AND SUBCONTRACTORS - August 23, 2011
Please plan to join us for a breakfast briefing on compliance with the Davis Bacon Act. The seminar will provide a very helpful overview of coverage and compliance issues relating to obligations to pay prevailing wages on government construction contracts. The presentation will also address the Davis Bacon wage survey that the U.S. Department of Labor is currently seeking to update.

ARCHITECTURE 2030

The AIA+2030 Professional Series is a comprehensive, ground-breaking curriculum that includes ten, 4-hour sessions teaching strategies to reach the current 2030 challange of 60% reduction in fossil fuel greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) with strategies to increase efficiency towards the 2030 net zero goal.


Architecture 2030 is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan research organization that trains green-collar workers in the architecture and engineering fields to design buildings that use less energy. The program was launched in Seattle in 2009, and has been extremely successful.

DAVIS-BACON WAGE SURVEY HAS BEGUN

The Long Awaited US Department of Labor Study in Underway in Texas 

The DOL needs feedback for upcoming changes to the Davis-Bacon wages in Texas.  Contractors are encouraged to submit data on all commercial building projects (both federal and private) which were underway between March 1, 2010 and August 31, 2010.  If you didn't get survey documents in the mail, you can find them here:
