INTRODUCTION TO CONSTRUCTION PLANS AND DOCUMENTS READING - Two-week course begins May 9, 2011
Students will learn: the "language"; working with plans; contract documents; sitework and foundations; building structures; masonry and finishes
  
BIM 101 - May 12, 2011
BIM 101 is designed specifically for construction professioals eager to learn the essential concepts of BIM. The full-day (8-hour) course explains the benefits of improved visualization on a construction project through the use of 3D, 4D and 5D models, establishes a knowledge base of BIM teminology and outlines case studies succesful BIM implementation.
  
EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES COMMITTEE HOSTS BROWN BAG BRIEFING - May 25, 2011 
The Obama NLRB has wasted no time overhauling the pro-employer decisions from the Bush administration. The NLRB is aggressively pursuing changes to organizing campaigns and elections to make it easier for unions to win elections. This seminar will update you on the NLRB's procedures and anticipated reversals of existing Board law, and actions that you can implement now to best protect your company against union organizing campaigns. Frank Carrabba, Law Office of Frank Carrabba, P.C., and Mark Jodan, Littler Mendelson, P.C., will be presenting on this topic.

SAFETY 
SAFETY STAND-DOWN - May 11, 2011
You and your company are invited to stand-up and show your commitment to safety by participating in our 8th annual Safety Stand-Down.  The construction industry, along with OSHA's support, has agreed to take the lead in asking the industry to Stand-Down their projects in a unified effort to focus on the reason for working without injury.  Stand-Down participants will be recognized at the annual AGC Houston Mid-Year Meeting.

 

OSHA 30-HOUR - June 6-10, 2011
 
This course is designed for project management, site supervision, & field employees involved in the construction industry. Many owners are now requiring that site supervision obtain the 30 Hour construction outreach training program as an orientation to occupational safety and health covered by OSHA 29 CFR 1926. This class is NOT a prerequisite for the OSHA 500 course. If you want to take the OSHA 500 course you must take the OSHA 510 course.

The date has been set for the annual AGC Houston Fishing Tournament. As in the past, there will be a Captain's Dinner held the Wednesday (7/20) before the tournament where the fishing captains will be paired with registered teams. DAVIS-BACON WAGE SURVEY HAS BEGUN

US Department of Labor Begins Long Awaited Study in Texas  

The DOL began a mass mailing of surveys yesterday in order to get feedback for upcoming changes to the Davis-Bacon wages in Texas.  Contractors are encouraged to submit data on all commercial building projects (both federal and private) which were underway between March 1, 2010 and August 31, 2010.  Watch for your survey documents in the mail, or download them here:
