EDUCATION 
COMPLYING WITH STORM WATER REGULATIONS - SWPP
Begins April 20, 2011
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has recently approved the renewal of TXR15000, effective March 5, 2008. With renewal come numerous reveisions and additions to the permit. Many of these are simple clarifications, but some are significant and will require change in many aspects of project compliance.

INTRODUCTION TO CONSTRUCTION PLANS AND DOCUMENTS READING - Two-week course begins May 9, 2011
Students will learn: the "language"; working with plans; contract documents; sitework and foundations; building structures; masonry and finishes
  
BIM 101 - May 12, 2011
BIM 101 is designed specifically for construction professioals eager to learn the essential concepts of BIM. The full-day (8-hour) course explains the benefits of improved visualization on a construction project through the use of 3D, 4D and 5D models, establishes a knowledge base of BIM teminology and outlines case studies succesful BIM implementation.

SAFETY 
SAFETY STAND-DOWN - May 11, 2011
You and your company are invited to stand-up and show your commitment to safety by participating in our 8th annual Safety Stand-Down.  The construction industry, along with OSHA's support, has agreed to take the lead in asking the industry to Stand-Down their projects in a unified effort to focus on the reason for working without injury.  Stand-Down participants will be recognized at the annual AGC Houston Mid-Year Meeting.
 
FIRST AID / CPR / AED - May 11, 2011
 
Meet the requirements of OSHA Paragraph 1926.50  which calls for a person on the jobsite to have a valid certificate in first aid training in the absence of infirmary, clinic, or physician that is reasonably accessible in terms of time and distance to the worksite.   Completion of this course meets the requirements of this standard, and participants will receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid and CPR/AED wallet card valid for two years upon course completion.

ACE MENTOR PROGRAM: May 17, 2011

Save the Date! 

ACE is an acronym for architecture, construction, and engineering.  The program's mission is to enlighten and increase the awareness of high school students to career opportunities in architecture, construction and engineering and related areas of the design and construction industry through mentoring; and to provide scholarship opportunities for students in an inclusive manner reflective of the diverse school population.  ACE is a unique partnership among industry professionals who work together to attract young people to their professions. Industry professionals volunteer to become mentors to high school students in order to introduce them to their professions and encourage them to pursue studies and careers in these fields.  In return, the industry gets a much-needed boost of new talent.

The AGC Houston Chapter BIM Leadership Task Force has been organized to promote Building Information Modeling through local discussion, thought-leadership, and education for Contractors and Owners while fostering a "teaming" relationship with the Houston design community to develop local best practices.
