            and donate.

By now everyone knows that the disaster is massive with 6,000 confirmed dead and 16,000 missing and if they can't stop the reactors from melting down it will get truly horrendous on a previously never before seen level.

Anything anyone can give will be greatly appreciated by the Japanese people as well as by myself and my family.

Spam botnet zapped. Microsoft Kicks Butt.

Here's an interesting story about the world's largest spam botnet, Rustock. A botnet is a bunch of computers that have been infected with a virus that forces the computers to do their master's bidding. In the case of a spam botnet the bidding usually involves the sending out of tons of junk email. The most interesting part of the story is that it was Microsoft's Digital Crimes Unit who did the taking down. This will give everyone a temporary respite from the massive volume of spam we usually get.

Here are two articles on the subject which are pretty enlightening:

Right after it happened

After we knew what had actually happened

If you think you are getting too much spam or are infected with a virus I can help.

Sinclair ZX-81 recently turned thirty.
The first mass market, inexpensive pre-assembled computer recently turned thirty. It revolutionized the industry as suddenly you could have your own PC that you could program. It was by today's standards laughably feature poor and with its 1 k of memory tjousands of them couldn't do what one of today's average desktops can, but it introduced today's programmers to computers and for that we salute it.

Here is a link to the article that explains a bit more about it:

The cost of hard drive space
Here is an chart detailing the declining cost of hard drive space. In 1956 five megabytes cost 50,000 dollars. Now you can get a two terabyte drive for $165.00.

This is as good as it gets.
