Dr. Joan's Life Tip of The Month  

Almonds are a fantastic snack, one I've been eating since my youth. Eat six almonds 30 minutes before a meal to dampen appetite. Eat six almonds within 30 minutes after exercising to build up muscle.

What is Dr Joan up to? Plenty!
- On September 21st, gave a talk on Effective Communications at the Missile Defense Agency in Dahlgren, VA. We hope they communicate effectively!
-Just completed work on one of the last chapters of my new book, "Sitting Kills, Moving Heals". We received a big compliment from the copy editor who asked for a copy of the book when it's published.
-The pre-publishing media for "Sitting Kills, Moving Heals" means that you can read about it before you.... read it! Amongst others, "Well Being Journal" will run an excerpt from the book in its January/February issue, which comes out in December. "The Costco Connection" magazine will publish an interview with Dr. Joan about the book in their October issue. Grab a copy on your next Costco trip.
-Dr.Joan is working on the launch of her new Health Coaching service. Stay tuned for more on this, including an article in next month's newsletter explaining what  'Heath Coaching' is all about.
-Accepted a Professorship at Taksha University in Hampton, VA. Excited about developing curricula for courses offered nationally to adults that combine scientific understanding and yoga therapy for better stress management and healthy living. The first course is designed to help Caregivers - more on this later. This is the first of it's kind and an exciting challenge.
- Was informed that Dr. Joan's contribution to Stacy Ernyart's book on Aging Well was withdrawn since the editor "feels strongly that because the contribution deals pretty much exclusively with the NASA narrative it may not feel as relevant now that the program has been scrubbed". Stacy's contribution to the elderly is to be admired, but the decision is disappointing as it deprives the work on healthy aging of cutting edge information. (By the way, NASA just unveiled its plans for its new super rocket! Hardly a "scrubbed program").
