Spotlight on Pro Bono Attorneys at "Laddys" November 3
Legal Aid and Defender Association (LAD) will hold our first "Laddys" pro bono service awards ceremony Thursday, November 3 at 5:30 p.m. at the A. Albert Taubman Center for Design Services at the College for Creative Studies, 485 W. Milwaukee Street in Detroit.
"We have been honoring our pro bono attorneys for years through the very successful annual pro bono awards ceremony produced by our Civil Law Group," said Deierdre L. Weir, LAD president and CEO.
"We've decided to build on that success and expand this event into an annual fundraiser to raise nondiscretionary funding for the Civil Law Group and other activities of the organization," Weir continued.
"We want this to be a fun event," Weir said. "That's why we're presenting the 'Laddys' -- a play on our LAD acronym and such entertainment industry awards as Emmys, Grammys and Oscars."
At the ceremony, attorneys will receive recognition for exceptional volunteer service representing clients through LAD's Private Attorney Involvement Program. Laddys will be presented to the following individuals and organizations for their exceptional pro bono service through LAD's Private Attorney Involvement Program:
- Pro Bono Attorney of the Year - Joseph W. Uhl, Associate Attorney, Miller Canfield P.L.C.
- Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year - Clark Hill PLC (to be accepted by attorney Paul Scheidemantel)
