Hi, it's been a while since the last newsletter so here is a little update of what has been happening at the gallery.
The last couple of months have seen me experimenting across a range of subjects. I've not been producing any large scale work so most of the paintings featured are smaller in both size and price.
The first of these is based on Celtic standing stones, I picked up a wide range of reading material for Christmas and this subject sprung to mind. It's always a challenge painting a landscape format bisected by vertical components as it creates a lot of technical issues. If these can be worked through the results are always worth it. I hope this will turn in to a classic image as the Birch trees and The West Coast have done. The variations are endless so there may be one or two more!
The second is a development of a painting I was working on last year. I'm never fully satisfied with this, it seems to evolve of it's own accord. Here we see the spinnaker sails luffing as they are hauled in as the racing yachts make their turn. I've always liked to paint sailing boats. The Hilder influence again. This year will see me produce an imitation of a Marine classic in the Über style.
The next two paintings of The Lake District are interesting by comparison. I've been working on a number of mountain paintings over the past 12 months. They all present similar challenges and all prove equally as difficult. Here I have morphed the images changing primarily the foreground. The first painting sees the introduction of the a dry brush technique. I used this extensively in my previous more traditional work. How this can be incorporated into Überpainting in the future remains to be seen.
The fifth painting is a move from my centre ground. I have always been interested in the illustrative potential of this style of work and wanted to explore something along these lines. A graveyard seemed as good as any. This was hugely complex, but affirms that I can move forward out of pure landscape. I have recently been in touch with a number of illustration agencies, watch this space.
Finally for those of you in Southern England, the A & K Wilson Gallery in Harpenden Hertfordshire are hosting my second solo show with them. Last years was a huge success and we hope to build on that by showcasing my very latest work. The Gallery is right next to the entrance to the train station so it's an easy day out. If you have any enquiries contact Andrew directly drew@akwilsongallery.co.uk or call him on 01582 760824. The exhibition starts on May the 3rd and runs for the whole of the month.
