ÜBERPAINTING FEBRUARY 2011 |

Hello and a belated Happy New Year to you all.
It's been nearly three months since the last newsletter so there have been a few developments here.
Featured today are several new paintings I was working on in preparation for the recent Works On Paper fair in London.
The first has taken the highly successful Über Pine image of 2008 and reworked onto a new level. The introduction of foliage was a challenge, a very intense painting to execute.
I have just modified the website; if you click on the paintings below it will take you to the homepage. The site is stripped down to a more essential content, it's all about the paintings now. I no longer sell prints, only my original work and I no longer sell on line. The website is really for information only, there are lots of paintings to view all of which are available from the Studio Gallery Hexham.
If there are any paintings that catch your eye please either email or phone me to discuss them further.

The recent Works on Paper Fair at The British Science museum was a huge success. It was good to see all of you who came to start their collection, add to it or say hello. The fair is very well organised and attended with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. I imagine I will be exhibiting next year and would highly recommend a visit as the quality and variety of work on show was impressive.
Über Elm 2011
The reaction to my paintings from a well educated audience was interesting and encouraging.
It has often been said that my paintings hark back to the early 20th Century travel posters, artists such as George Ayling, Charles Barker and more recently Brian Cook. This is a great compliment, yet coincidental.
However looking at Über Elm to the left I can see what people mean. I am particularly please with the pattern repetition in the meandering stream. The idea of pattern repetition is something I am keen to explore in 2011.

With half term here for those of you coming up North do make the detour to Hexham and for the Northerners I'm at the gallery all of next week including the weekends.
I don't imagine there will be a more comprehensive collection of my work here now until autumn as the start of March will see the new work going to Galleries across the UK so it's a good time to visit.
You may even see this slightly new departure below. I was just having some fun, it's a pure watercolour no computer trickery, looking forward to some feedback on it. |
