ÜBERPAINTING
NOVEMBER 2010
Hello!

Welcome to November! I only have three paintings for you to look at this month as it has been a very busy time outside the studio.

In last months newsletter I mentioned I was showing at the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea.  This proved to be an enourmous success with 19 original paintings selling.  Perhaps more importantly some real interst from some established London galleries.

It seems my best work is easily able to command prices up to £3000 now so thats good news for you all.

kindest regards

Matt

Über Reflections

500mm x 350mm £850

This painting has started me working on what always was a favourite subject, reflections.

To do this within the Ubertechnique is a challenge, however I'm feeling able to push the complexity forwards a little. A contradiction in many ways as I have always stated one of the key components to Überpaintings must be simplicity. I would expect to see more of this over 2011.

700mm x 500mm £1550

Über Puddlesmoves this idea forward a little. While there is no reflection in the puddles the blank space they provide gives a greater contrast and over all lifts the brightness of the whole composition.

This painting looks very simple but was in fact one of the more difficult compositions I have done.

The Lake District

350mm x 500mm £850

Looking back to October's newsletter there is a portrait painting of the Lake District. It's no exaggeration to say that the reaction to this painting in London was huge. I exhibited four variations  in  terms of size and palette and they all sold.

This is another variation on the subject as I removed the Silver Birch trees. What is very different here is that the first initial wash is graded light to dark from top to bottom. Not normal Überpainting practice as all washes should be flat. This first wash is yellow, so when a flat wash of blue is applied on top it changes throughout the painting becoming greener towards the bottom as the yellow intensifies and also a new take on clouds.

Coming up this month there is a very fresh look to the Hexham Gallery at the moment, a completely new set of work having just sold everything I had.

I'm here throughout November so if you are visiting Northumberland do drop in, or book in for the Dillies event at the end of November and see paintings whilst tasting some fine champagne!

kind regards,

Matt
