| ÜBERPAINTING
OCTOBER 2010 |
|
I've spent most of September in preparation for the Affordable Art Fair set to take place in Battersea Park from Thursday 21st to Sunday 24th of October.
As with the 2009 show I'm being represented by Arts House brain child of David Shapiro. I'll not be there personally however for those of you who visited last year my work is being looked after by Darren Tiffney . With around 20 original works to choose from these paintings represent the 'crop of 2010'.
Here are a few examples of what I have been doing in September:

The first painting is an updated version of the Lake District image.
As my skills develop it is interesting to revisit previous designs and add to them. With this painting I experimented with a huge range of colours, strangely the painting suited a very traditional palette, maybe due to its complex design. I kept the tonal values unusually opaque, a really watery watercolour; this original will be on display at Battersea.
I've got some free tickets for AAF, drop me an email with your address if you would like one sending to you.

Small Pine
125mm x 175mm £350
Available from Hexham Gallery only
 | I started on a new painting picking up on some unfinished work from 2009.
I began by painting about 40 small images in a range of colours with basically the same drawing. There were so many other variables to work with in tandem with the basic drawing. The results are fascinating and 'small pine' is one of the very early ones. |

Pine Woods
350mm x 500mm £750 |
This is the image I finished with, or at least it is close to being finished. I hope to have time to paint a full size piece for the AAF. The retention of the yellow in its primary form added a fresh feel to the composition. |

Über River
700mm x 500mm £1350 |
These two images are a variation on Uber river bank that featured in the September newsletter. This was interesting as I could paint this in either a portrait or landscape format. These two portrait studies use completely different palettes. This is unusually warm and completely far fetched.
With this palette it is slightly harder to look at. Face to face the image presents a real sense of the three dimensional. The colours may not be broadly appealing; however it is a striking image when viewed in reality. |
