Unbelievably summer has gone..... I hope you all enjoyed it - it has been a busy August for me.
I have just completed my first Über commission. I was approached to paint a particular set of rocks in Staward Gorge on the River Allen. I have always been concerned that I would be unable to transpose the Über technique into a commission however I must say that I was very pleased with the result.
Staword Gorge, River Allen - Commision |
It made me realise I could expand my subject range a little further than I thought. The client was very pleased, so if you have any commission ideas you can run them past me.
I have also been approached to produce a set of four limited editions for a company based in the US and this second painting is one of the images I put forward. It is a reworking of one of the original 16 Über Britain paintings. I'm just beginning to introduce more foreground motifs such as the shell/boat. I like the idea of uncertainty and duality. Possibly Überpaintings already have been and will become slightly more surreal.
In the third painting I have essentially morphed a lot of the components of the previous painting. I have been conscious of becoming a little complex and wanted to strip a composition back down to its essential elements.
This simplicity is a hallmark of the original Über idea. This painting will be shown at the 20th anniversary of the A&K Wilson Gallery in Harpenden. For those of you down south it will be a diverse and large event for more information contact Andrew Wilson drew@akwilsongallery.co.uk
The fourth painting developed from an idea of painting a breaking wave. It did not turn out as expected.....I developed this situation of a very steep beach I had seen in the Canary Islands. The successive repetition and perspective of the incoming waves work. Also another manmade object slipping into view with the Umbrella, I think we'll see more of these.
For those of you following on twitter this was given the thumbs down in favour of a Conch, but I'm the artist here.
Lastly I have came back to dry land. I have always noticed the very dense green rushes/grass that grows wild on high moorland.
Luckily there are plenty close to me in Northumberland and it's a great subject or foreground to base an Überpaintings on. I have only just started work on this and judging by the twitter comments it hasn't grabbed everyone yet. To be continued.....
regards
