Steel Rigg

As you may or may not be aware with most Überpaintings they represent an imagined ideal. For more information click through to the website for a broader explanation.
This view of Steel Rigg is an exception. I actually painted it in a range of palettes, but this one seemed to stand out. I based it on a sketch I did last September when the grasses were dried out hence the autumnal feel. The sun being over to the south east it enhances the drama of the Whin Sill.

Silver Birch
This subject was the very first Überpainting I ever did, almost three years ago. It's classic Uber material, the white of the birch bark base contrast to work from.
It is useful for me to revisit this painting every six months or so as a marker to see how I have developed. It allows me to try out new skills and ideas within a familiar framework.

Beech

I have been working on my beech trees for some time and am now confident I have an established style and method. They have come a long way from the initial Uber beech.
While I still like to paint these trees in winter this is a summer scene. I have almost transposed the idea of the Birch painting into this. I'm sure there is still room for development as it's moving in a natural way towards the surreal.

North Pennines

Living within a very short distance of the most northerly Pennines, this is a subject I'm very comfortable having painted the length of the Pennines for almost 15 years. This is a first in the Ubertechnique.
In 2008 I did a great deal of work on Dartmoor and the Tors that litter the landscape. Have a look at the website for the Dartmoor print. This is a similar landscape so I had a good idea what I was trying to achieve and how to go about it . It's a solid first attempt and will defiantly revisit this in the future.

The Valley

I've seen places like this in North Wales, the West Country, Yorkshire and Scotland, it is a rural idyll.
I have always played on the image of the gable end of the country cottage, so using three is a little indulgent.
This is only a small sketch yet it has developed from the painting in the last newsletter (see archive on the website.) This image will always have to have the dramatic light and feeling of closeness, a change of weather.

West Coast of Scotland

In a similar way to the Silver Birch painting this is a benchmark image for me.
I will always repaint this in different guises as it offers limitless opportunity to try out new ideas and palettes.
I particularly enjoy depicting the ripples in the water in this very graphic predetermined way so characteristic of Überpaintings.
