Commuter Tips Coming Your Way!
Issue: 13
Greetings!

Starting this month, we are going to feature "Commuter Tips" as part of this e-newsletter. Each tip will offer advice on a different alternative mode of transportation and how to make it work for you. reThink Program Logo

We're starting out with a Commuter Tip on biking to work. If you have questions on this topic or other transportation options, send them our way and we may feature the answer as a Commuter Tip in the future!

Of course you can always get your questions answered quickly by calling us at 1-866-610-RIDE (7433) or by sending an email to info@reThinkYourCommute.com!

Commuter Tip #1 - Lock It Up with a U-Lock

Celebrating New Bike Racks!

We held a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony to commemorate the installation of new bike racks at our own office at the Florida Department of Transportation's Orlando Urban Office.

 Bike Rack Ribbon Cutting

Previously there was no place to lock up your bike if you rode to work or to attend a meeting at this office. But due to the interest of employees and the support of FDOT staff, we now have covered parking for up to eight bikes!

Initiative Launched to Improve Pedestrian Safety

Bike/Walk Central Florida, MetroPlan Orlando, and the Winter Park Health Foundation are launching an 18-month education and enforcement program to help make Metro Orlando safer for pedestrians.

In 2010, there were 59 pedestrians killed in Orange, Seminole, and Osceola counties. A 2011 study titled Dangerous by Design identified the greater Orlando area as the leader in pedestrian fatalities, nationwide, over the past decade. In response to findings in the report, the Bike/Walk Central Florida "Triple E" initiative will combine aggressive law Enforcement with Education and low-cost Engineering to get more drivers to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, increase civility and create a more livable, walkable community.

LYNX Route Changes Effective December 4

Two new LYNX routes and several LYNX route changes went into effect this past weekend.

Most notably, Link 30 has been replaced with two new Links: Link 104, which will serve SR 50 from downtown Orlando east to UCF; and Link 105, which will serve SR 50 from downtown Orlando west to Winter Garden. These two new links operate with limited stops in certain sections of SR 50, so please make sure to check out all of the info before you go.
