METROPLAN Hosts Screening

METROPLAN ORLANDO is hosting a screening of Beyond the Motor City, a documentary featured on PBS and developed by Blueprint America. The documentary is part of a nationwide initiative to explore the state of infrastructure in America.

Acclaimed filmmaker Aaron Woolf examines Detroit's historic investments in infrastructure - from early 19th-century canals to the urban freeways that gave The Motor City its name and made America's transportation system the envy of the world. What public policy decisions of the past now leave present-day Detroit - and many parts of the country - behind in developing a faster, cleaner, and more modern transportation system?

A moderated discussion will follow the screening. The event is free and open to the public - but seating is limited. RSVP now to ensure you have seat at the show.

What: Beyond the Motor City Screening

When: Tuesday, October 26, 2 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Where: Enzian Theater, 1300 S Orlando Ave, Maitland, FL 32751

RSVP: Lenora Spence, lspence@metroplanorlando.com or call (407) 481-5672, extension 305. * Please RSVP by October 20

Votran Rolls Out New Flex Service

Votran's new Flex service in Southeast Volusia County began October 4. The service picks up passengers curbside within the designated Flex service area and takes them to any destination within the service area or to the bus stop that connects with Votran's fixed route bus system.

The Volusia County Council, looking for ways to cut next year's budget, decided to implement Flex service to replace Southeast Volusia fixed-routes 42,43 and 44 in New Smyrna Beach.

For the full story, check out Votran's website.
Congrats to Volusia TPO!

A video produced by WDSC-TV Channel 15 for the Volusia Transportation Planning Organization (VTPO) has won a 31st Annual Telly Award.

The Volusia TPO's Walk and Ride Bicycle & Pedestrian Safety Video was selected for a Bronze Telly Award in the Safety Category from over 13,000 entries submitted from all 50 states and 5 continents. Volunteers and personnel from the Volusia County School District, Port Orange Police Department and Volusia County Sheriff's Office contributed to the making of the video, which was funded by a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation's Safe Routes to School Program.
