Al Fischer and Charlie Robin Are Coming For Mass This Week

You may recall from local news reports, Al Fischer was fired from his teaching job at a Roman Catholic School where he taught. Shortly after that, he was fired from a parish where he directed music.  Al was fired from both jobs because he and his partner, Charlie Robin, announced on Facebook that they were going to be married in New York state where same-sex marriage is legal.  When Frank saw the news accounts, he reached out to Al and Charlie and invited them to SCF so that we could "surround them with affirmation."

Besides praying a prayer of thanksgiving for their relationship of years and their marriage, we will ask Al to lead us in a rendition of "Singing for Our Lives," which we sang at Easter.  We invite all who are willing to be allies of gay and lesbian couples come on June 9th and support this great couple; let's let them know that Sts. Clare & Francis is standing with them!

Summer Book Discussion

Beginning June 30th, 3:00 - 4:30 pm

Fireside Room

Radical Love

Join a summer book discussion of Patrick Cheng's book, "Radical Love: An Introduction to Queer Theology."  Rev. Claudia Hall and Jessica Rowley will facilitate the discussion.  We will gather on five Saturdays from 3:00 - 4:30 pm in the Fireside Room on June 30th, July 14th,  July 28th, August 11th, August 25th

You can order the book here:

http://www.left-bank.com/book/9781596271326    $20  or at

 http://www.amazon.com/Radical-Love-Introduction-Queer-Theology/dp/1596271329/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337810269&sr=8-1

Dr. Patrick Cheng's book "Radical Love: An Introduction to Queer Theology" is part of a larger movement within Christian theology called contextual theology, which focuses on applying the historical doctrines and teachings of the faith to particular life circumstances. For centuries, celibate and/or heterosexual European men were responsible for the vast majority of religious writing and preaching. In the last 50 years, a variety of new voices have entered theological discourse, including sexual and gender minorities. This book is for everyone, offering a new way to look at the Bible, at church teachings, and at how we understand ourselves to be Christian. This five week series will follow Cheng's book while listening to our own responses for insights about how the Spirit is at work.

About Rev. Claudia Hall:

Claudia Hall comes to Sts. Clare & Francis with a diverse ministry background. She grew up in a variety of Protestant denominations, graduated with her B.A. in religion from St. Leo College, a Benedictine school, and received her M.Div from Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, MO. After serving as a Methodist minister for several years, including appointments as a church growth pastor and a new church start pastor, she left the UMC and founded an interfaith ministry which focuses on helping people rejected by traditional churches, especially sexual and gender minority persons. She is working on her Ph.D from the California Institute of Integral Studies and her dissertation is currently titled "The process of religious and spiritual identity construction in polyamorous Christians." She lives with her family in St. Charles.

Summer Barbecues

BBQ Evolve 2Sts. Clare & Francis is planning for the fifth annual summer barbecues for our community. Last summer's barbecues were very successful with many members getting to know one another better.  We are in the process of scheduling and organizing the barbecues for this summer.  The host/hostess supplies the atmosphere, plates, utensils, napkins, etc. and those attending each bring a dish to share.  Each host/hostess can decide what they want to supply in addition to the place to gather.  We now have volunteers to host July, August and September. If you would like to host a barbecue in June, please contact Therese Gabriel at 314.607.7087 or theresem40@gmail.com. Therese will be the contact person to organize scheduling and items brought by the participants.

True Selves Rising: Register today!

A day long retreat

June 16, 2012

9:00 am - 4:00 pm

$35.00

We welcome Kate Schroeder, LPC,  to spend the day with us and break open  an integrative approach to personal and spiritual growth.  Through conversation, experiential exercises, and group process  we will engage our core selves (using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) and our defense systems (using the Enneagram).  As we grow in self understanding we will explore how that wisdom can heal emotional and spiritual wounds, and build stronger communities.
