Bread for the World
Offering of Letters
Saturday, May 5, 2012
After Mass
Fellowship Hall
Our annual Bread for the World Offering of Letters and Soup Meal is Saturday, May 5. Please join us after Mass for a soup meal as we live our faith by being advocates for our neighbors living in poverty. We will write letters to Congress urging our senators and representatives to form a circle of protection around the programs that support our poorest neighbors in these difficult times. How we treat our neighbor -- both through our personal actions and as a nation -- are concrete expressions of how we love God. Sample letters and all the letter writing materials will be provided. Please bring a spoon and a bowl so it can be a "green meal."

Hospitality Ministry Team
The newly forming Hospitality Ministry Team met this past weekend to discuss where SCF, as a a welcoming community, feels called to place special emphasis. At the present moment the following three ministries have emerged: Greeting (visitors, new members, set-up/take-down greeters table, etc); Gathering (receptions, potlucks, set-up team, clean-up team, dishwashing team, servers, etc); Caring (cards, notes and calls for birthdays, anniversaries (marriage or bereavement), illness, new visitors, check-in with people).
Some people have also expressed interest in leadership for these various areas: Marty Campbell, Greeting; Therese Gabriel, Gathering; and Michelle Smith, Caring. If you feel called to leadership in any of these areas, or would be interested in another aspect of leadership, feel free to contact Michelle Smith or Therese Gabriel, Parish Council liaison for Hospitality. The more the merrier! If you don't feel called to lead or coordinate but just want to help in some way, please know we appreciate whatever you are able to offer to a particular ministry. It takes a village!
Stay tuned for more updates and thanks to all for your willingness to share in this ministry. We welcome all who want to join as we ensure All Feel Welcome at Sts. Clare & Francis.
Blessings,
Michelle

New Member Welcome and Ritual
We celebrate the remarkable individuals and families that have joined our community in the past year! Your faces, spirits, presence, and energy move and shape the God-life that flows through this precious family of faith. We would like to officially welcome you at our Pentecost liturgy on May 26th. There will be a ritual during Mass and a reception with appetizers to follow.
We would like to put together a program that highlights you. So, if you joined SCF since Easter 2011, please contact Steve Campbell by May 10 with the following information for our program:
- Send a digital picture of yourself. If that is not possible, let us know and we'll take a photo after Mass.
- Answer these two questions (in a sentence or two).
- What drew you to Sts. Clare & Francis?
- What makes you feel most alive (because Christ came so we might have life, and have it abundantly... John 10:10)?
Any questions, contact Jessica.

There are lots of exciting events in the works at SCF. Here's a preview. Mark your calendars:
May 12, 3:00 - 4:30 pm - Convocation: Dances for Universal Peace
Join Linda Hibbits and Ed Francis as they lead us in this embodied form of prayer, walking us through spiritual gems from religions throughout the world.
June 16 - Enneagram Workshop with Kate Schroeder
We are pinning down a date (Saturday, likely) for a day long workshop/retreat on the Enneagram. The Enneagram is a tool to better understand ourselves and how our gifts fit into a community. Watch for more information coming soon!
Summer book study - Jessica with friend, Rev. Claudia Hall, will be reading and discussing the book Radical Love: An introduction to Queer Theology by Patrick Cheng. More information coming soon.
July 28, time TBA - a day of reflection with Stefan Andre Waligur
We welcome back Stefan, who facilitated our retreat in Spring 2011 with song, story and reflection. Stefan is a musician, song writer, retreat leader, and storyteller coming out of the Celtic tradition. We welcome him back to SCF while on summer break from studying in Ireland.
If you have any interest in helping with an event, contact someone on the pastoral team (Jessica Rowley, Frank Krebs, Steve Campbell, Lisa von Stamwitz, or Michelle Smith). |

random sightings wisdom...reflection...insight...amusement
Author Tony Campolo, who makes a regular circuit as a chapel speaker on Christian college campuses, for a time used this provocation to make a point:
"The United Nations reports that over ten thousand people starve to death each day, and most of you don't give a shit. However, what is even more tragic is that most of you are more concerned about the fact that I just said a bad word than you are about the fact that ten thousand people are going to die today."
