New Member Welcome and Ritual
We celebrate the remarkable individuals and families that have joined our community in the past year! Your faces, spirits, presence, and energy move and shape the God-life that flows through this precious family of faith. We would like to officially welcome you at our Pentecost liturgy on May 26th. There will be a ritual during Mass and a reception with appetizers to follow.
We would like to put together a program that highlights you. So, if you joined SCF since Easter 2011, please contact Steve Campbell by May 10 with the following information for our program:
- Send a digital picture of yourself. If that is not possible, let us know and we'll take a photo after Mass.
- Answer these two questions (in a sentence or two).
- What drew you to Sts. Clare & Francis?
- What makes you feel most alive (because Christ came so we might have life, and have it abundantly... John 10:10)?
Any questions, contact Jessica.

There are lots of exciting events in the works at SCF. Here's a preview. Mark your calendars:
May 12, 3:00 - 4:30 pm - Convocation: Dances for Universal Peace
Join Linda Hibbits and Ed Francis as they lead us in this embodied form of prayer, walking us through spiritual gems from religions throughout the world.
June - Enneagram Workshop with Kate Schroeder
We are pinning down a date (Saturday, likely) for a day long workshop/retreat on the Enneagram. The Enneagram is a tool to better understand ourselves and how our gifts fit into a community. Watch for more information coming soon!
July 28, time TBA - a day of reflection with Stefan Andre Waligur
We welcome back Stefan, who facilitated our retreat in Spring 2011 with song, story and reflection. Stefan is a musician, song writer, retreat leader, and storyteller coming out of the Celtic tradition. We welcome him back to SCF while on summer break from studying in Ireland.
If you have any interest in helping with an event, contact someone on the pastoral team (Jessica Rowley, Frank Krebs, Steve Campbell, Lisa von Stamwitz, or Michelle Smith).

Return to Pickle Springs
Sunday, April 29, 2012
11:30 am
Our outings to Pickle Springs Natural Area are so popular we decided to do it again! We are planning this year's trip for Sunday, April 29th. Meet at Art's and Frank's house at 11:30am, and we'll plan to leave at 12 noon for Ste. Genevieve. It takes about an hour to an hour and a half to get to the trailhead, and approximately 1- 2 hours to hike the trail. Afterward, join us at Crown Valley Winery for a light dinner before heading home.
|
Pickle Springs Natural Area is a deep, forested gorge consisting of geological formations and plants that are found in few other places. Visitors will find examples of a sandstone glade, talus, forest, savanna, as well as a number of rare species of plants and animals. The area is noted for its blooming wild azalea and wildflowers in the spring. According to local legend, the area is named after William Pickles, a settler from Illinois who owned the land until he was shot by a band of renegades during the Civil War. Pickle Springs and other area creeks flow into Pickle Creek, which in turn traverses into Hawn State Park.
| |
Designated a National Natural Landmark, Pickle Springs Natural Area features a 2-mile hiking trail maintained by the East Ozark Audubon Society in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Conservation. This two-mile journey has an estimated hiking time of one hour and takes hikers past waterfalls, rock shelters, a double arch (see photo), towering bluffs, canyons and amazing rock outcrops. Wooden bridges along the trail aid hikers past troublesome spots.
|
Please RSVP to Art Maines at 314-518-1973, or e-mail him at a_maines@msn.com. You can also contact him for directions to his house, or with any questions about the outing. Hope to see you there!

Alternative Liturgy Committee Returns
Are you interested in using your creative abilities and gifts in planning alternative liturgies throughout the year? In the past we have planned two or three opportunities per year. We offered gatherings which included readings, reflection, sharing, drumming, music, quiet, etc. If you find yourself interested, wondering, intrigued, curious, nosey, happy, excited please join us!! Everyone is welcome to be a part of the planning. No special talents are needed, just an interest in providing a sacred time for us to gather outside of our regular mass. Please contact Nancy Wamser if you have any questions or would like to be a part of this committee. walksoftly6@yahoo.com or call 346-6654.

random sightings wisdom...reflection...insight...amusement
Blessings
occur.
Some days I find myself
putting my foot in
the same stream twice;
Leading a horse to water
and making him drink.
I have a clue.
I can see the forest
for the trees.
All around me people
are making silk purses
out of sows' ears,
getting blood from turnips,
building Rome in a day.
There's a business
like show business.
There's something new
under the sun.
Some days misery
no longer loves company;
it puts itself out of its.
There's rest for the weary.
There's turning back.
There are guarantees.
I can be serious.
I can mean that.
You can quite
put your finger on it.
Some days I know
I am long for this world.
I can go home again.
And when I go
I can
take it with me.
