Easter Fire Tender Needed
Saturday, April 7, 2012
We are looking for someone to build our new fire for the Easter Vigil and tend it during our liturgy. The fire tender will aid in lighting the Easter candle, so we would like you to be available for the rehearsal Saturday morning at 10:00 am for a short time. A fire pit and firewood will be provided. Contact Jessica if you can help in this way.
(Our regular fire tender, Renee, will be lovingly tending to her partner, Judie, who will be recovering from surgery. We will send them blessings of light and warmth.)

Return to Pickle Springs
Sunday, April 29, 2012
11:30 am
Our outings to Pickle Springs Natural Area are so popular we decided to do it again! We are planning this year's trip for Sunday, April 29th. Meet at Art's and Frank's house at 11:30am, and we'll plan to leave at 12 noon for Ste. Genevieve. It takes about an hour to an hour and a half to get to the trailhead, and approximately 1- 2 hours to hike the trail. Afterward, join us at Crown Valley Winery for a light dinner before heading home.
|
Pickle Springs Natural Area is a deep, forested gorge consisting of geological formations and plants that are found in few other places. Visitors will find examples of a sandstone glade, talus, forest, savanna, as well as a number of rare species of plants and animals. The area is noted for its blooming wild azalea and wildflowers in the spring. According to local legend, the area is named after William Pickles, a settler from Illinois who owned the land until he was shot by a band of renegades during the Civil War. Pickle Springs and other area creeks flow into Pickle Creek, which in turn traverses into Hawn State Park.
| |
Designated a National Natural Landmark, Pickle Springs Natural Area features a 2-mile hiking trail maintained by the East Ozark Audubon Society in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Conservation. This two-mile journey has an estimated hiking time of one hour and takes hikers past waterfalls, rock shelters, a double arch (see photo), towering bluffs, canyons and amazing rock outcrops. Wooden bridges along the trail aid hikers past troublesome spots.
|
Please RSVP to Art Maines at 314-518-1973, or e-mail him at a_maines@msn.com. You can also contact him for directions to his house, or with any questions about the outing. Hope to see you there!

SCF Pledge Drive
Registered parishioners should have received an e-mail this week about our pledge drive. Please download and complete the pledge form and return it to Kevin Born at kpborn@gmail.com by April 15 (tax day!). Or, if you prefer, complete one of the paper forms on the table outside of church and place it in the collection. (If you are not a registered parishioner, absolutely no one will try to stop you if you would like to make a pledge!)

Resource Directory
The new SCF Resource directory needs your help. What gifts, talents and resources are you willing to share with your community?
For three Saturdays beginning Saturday, April 14, I will be available after Mass to visit with members and discuss the gifts, talents and resources they are willing to share with the Community. I will also continue to receive e-mails at studentpastorscf@gmail.com through the end of April.
Thanks for your willingness to share your gifts with the community.

Parish Council Election
Spring is here and that means it's time for parish council elections. Sheila Leander and Steve Campbell are coming to the end of their terms. That means we have two slots to fill.
If you are interested in serving as a member of the parish council, or if you wish to nominate someone, please contact a parish council member, or place their name in the box outside church. (Before nominating someone else, please discuss it with her/him and confirm their willingness to serve.) Feel free to contact any of the current council members to learn what's involved. Nominations will be accepted until Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012.

HOLY THURSDAY
Blessing that Meets You
in the Wilderness
After the
desert stillness.
After the
wrestling.
After the
hours
and days
and weeks
of emptying.
After the
hungering
and the
thirsting.
After the
opening
and seeing
and knowing.
Let this blessing be
the first sweetness
that touches
your lips
the bread
that falls into
your arms
the cup
that welcoming hands
press into
yours.
Let this blessing be
the road that
returns you.
Let it be
the strength to carry
the wilderness
home.
