It's Easy to be Green St. Pat's Dinner
Saturday, March 17, 2012
After Mass
SCF Church Basement
Thanks to all who signed up and donated to attend St. Pat's Dinner. It looks like we will have about 65 people coming!
Let's keep it Green so:
Don't forget to bring a reuseable fork, knife, and cup.
If bringing a beverage to share, make it a recyclable container, preferably locally produced. We will have tap water to drink (we are trying to discourage use of bottled water).
And most important, let's give our L'Arche guests (there will be 7 attending) a warm, SCF welcome!

Parish Council Election
Spring is around the corner and that means it's time for parish council elections. Sheila Leander and Steve Campbell are coming to the end of their terms. That means we have two slots to fill.
If you are interested in serving as a member of the parish council, or if you wish to nominate someone, please contact a parish council member, or place their name in the box outside church. (Before nominating someone else, please discuss it with her/him and confirm their willingness to serve.) Feel free to contact any of the current council members to learn what's involved. Nominations will be accepted until Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012.

Student Pastor Update
Greetings brothers and sisters,
As we begin to put the wheels in motion for cataloguing our gifts and talents as a community, I wanted to share a website that some may find useful in discerning what some of our gifts for ministry might be. www.teamministry.com provides an online gifts assessment tool with a 4-5 page evaluation free of charge. The entire process took less than 30 minutes and affirmed me in my gifts for shepherding a flock and showing acts of mercy. So, I invite those who are able and interested to take a few minutes and visit the website and answer the online survey for individuals. You may be affirmed like I was or you may even discover gifts you had not realized were yours.
Blessings,
Michelle

Your Vote Counts
Your Vote Counts is a voter initiative represented by a broad coalition of bipartisan groups concerned with protecting the will of the people and the integrity of the ballot initiative process. The Missouri legislature attempts to overturn voter initiatives more than any other state legislature. They can simply pass a law that overrules the will of the voters. The proposed Act will make it more difficult for them to do this. A petition is currently in process and will be available after Mass for signing by persons registered to vote in St. Louis County. For more information, go to www.protectvoters.com.

random sightings wisdom...reflection...insight...amusement
...the secret of weakness is not primarily about God trying to teach us in the midst of our struggles, but how God wants to bless others in the midst of our struggles. People seek out the church, not necessarily because Christians are strong and vibrant and healthy, but because honest Christians have known what it is like to be weak. They have known suffering. They have felt the stab of pain and loss. They have held each other in their sorrow - they have knelt at the beds of dying people, prayed in the ER, handed tissues to someone at the end of a rough day. And the reason people come through the sanctuary doors week after week is not because Christians have it all together or have eliminated suffering from their schedules, but because they are still able to say, after all this, 'We know that our Redeemer lives.'
